September Dawn is confirming my worst suspicions about the Mormons.   :o

You were hoping for a Hollywood re-write? :)

Is Trembing Before G-D reasonably objective?

der Brucer

It's on my DVR right next to The Chosen which I want to re-watch.

The spirit of the season continues.

Hmm... A crucified Santa... J. Edgar Hoover... And pictures of the storm damage in Australia... Yep, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around these here parts.

I am supposed to be going to a friend's house this evening to have Christmas dinner with him, his son-in-law, and the son-in-law's girlfriend.  Instad I am eating soup and crackers,

I haven't watched the "real facts" doc yet, but my fear is they didn't re-write anything.   ;D

I have seen that one yet, DB, but I have heard awfully good things about it.  I will say that I can personally attest to the fact that there are a whole big bunch of very strongly closeted Mormons, so I'm all for those who are courageous enough to let the world know their true natures.

And Cendrillon is way over-priced, imho.  And the "Filipino" food there is more Asian-fusion than anything else.  I prefer Elvie's Turo-Turo in the East Village, or the plethora of family-run places in Queens.  Or I just cook it myself.  ;)

I wasn't clear in that last response, DB--I was trying to make a connection between September Dawn and Trembling.  There are probably closeted Jews, too, but I haven't come in contact with any (so to speak).  ;)

I'm saving the one abou the 9 year banned from the school Christmas party becasue his Mom had pulled him out of religion classes

"He was really upset when I told him he couldn't go back to school. He just lay on the rug and cried. It was such a shame, but there was nothing I could do."

I might even do "The Collected Sayings of Ann Coulter " to cheer up Elmore!

As for closeted Jews and Mormons... That's a good chunk of the membership of Actor's Equity Association.  ;)

My my my my my, I just got in from NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, and I'm still mulling ity over: excellent cast, really excellent cast and a lot of violence, more realistic than SWEENEY TODD in that respect, but I'm still deciding what I thought of the film, which is completely open-ended with no satisfying resolution.  It's quite well done, and I like a lot of the Coens' films, but I feel that I should read the novel now.

Well growing up in Philly I knew quite a few - but considering almost all my classmates were Jewish, that is probably of no statistical significance.

Wow--most gay Jews I know have been out forever, and most Jews I know generally are too self-revelatory to keep any big secrets like that, LOL.

I still feel that the best film I saw this year was David Cronenberg's EASTERN PROMISES.
I liked STARDUST more than I liked HAIRSPRAY, and I really liked HAIRSPRAY.
I'm hot and cold on PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3, visually astonishing, loud as can be, and often confusing and confounding.
I have high hopes for SWEENEY and CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR, both from directors whom I run hot and cold on (I still cannot warm up to BIG FISH in anyway shape or form).

Cd-wise this year
Barbara Cook - No One Is Alone
Joe Nichols - Real Things
The Eagles - Long Road Out of Eden
Queen Latifah - Travelin' Light
Rufus Wainwright - Does Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall
Michael Buble - Call Me Irresponsible
Eldar - Re-Imagination (wonder how I found this artist. . . )
Tim McGraw - Let It Go
Matchbox Twenty - Exile on Mainstream
Chris Cornell - Carry On
Bruce Springsteen - Magic
Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass
Darren Hayes - This Delicate Thing We've Made

Looking forward to the second set of swing sessions from David Campbell.

I've already got the Stephanie Lawrence recording of BLOOD BROTHERS. . .

You know, you're probably right and I hadn't thought of that.  I didn't even know about gay people until probably the early 70s (call me sheltered, I won't disagree), and by then Stonewall had happened and people were probably more adamant about taking control of their destinies.

Back from various and sundried - got a lovely giftie from Milla Ilieva, very unexpected.  I'm cooking some halibut and having a sweet potato with it.
