Has Sandra taught you how to inhale?

der Brucer

I didn't inhale (a Bill Clinton reference).

DR TCB - how're you feeling, my friend?

I take it that you also liked CASINO ROYALE. . .I know you liked Daniel Craig's impersonation of Ursula Andress. . .

Oh.  How am I feeling?  Better, thank you for asking.  I think my fever started to break last night.  When I woke up this morning I thought I was in a waterbed.

Today has been Sunday, December 23, 2007.

It was a day of much church activity on the local scene.

We had morning church, during which Pastor Tommy Barwick preached loud and long, telling all and sundry exactly what Christmas is and how faith prevails over the naysayers.

We had lunch at a local country club.  I took an afternoon nap.

Then we went to a candlelight service during which Pastor Tommy Barwick preached loud and long, telling all and sundry about the Protestant churches' observance of Christmas through the ages.

This was followed by a communion and a lighting of candles, after which Christmas carols were sung and then the service was over.

Even though Pastor Barwick preached both times loud and long, I think I appreciated his convictions and faith more than I ever have.  They were his two best sermons that I have been a party to.

And now I type.  And now I relax.  And now my mom is preparing some supper.

And tomorrow is Christmas Eve, December 24, 2007.

My spaghetti sauce is spectacular, even I have to say so myself.

I lovingly prepared it yesterday afternoon, and it's mouthwatering aromas filled the house all night.

I have also brought some fresh grated parmesan from a store in Oakland to serve with the spaghetti.

I cannot wait for Christmas Eve and our spaghetti supper.

"The Stand" is playing on TV in the background (SciFi Channel) as I type.

I logged on primarily to see what is playing on TV tonight.  I've yet to find out because I realized how seriously remiss I was in posting today.

The cloudy cloudiness with the misty mistiness we have been experiencing in recent days -- not to mention, even though I am mentioning it,  the rains that fell upon us this morning -- has cleared out.

We have been left with clear skies, a bright full moon, and considerably cold air.

I may be -- just possibly -- developing a head cold.

I'm not promising anything.  Tomorrow things might be just peachy.

But for now, I'm a bit congested with sinus flow.

Otherwise, I feel fine.

I thought it was a terrific movie, and probaby the best Bond film since Connery left.

The BEST Bond film, IMO, was "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"...and even though Craig is a great Bond, I thought "Casino Royale" not quite as good as "OHMSS".

But that's me.

Or does a Vietnamese have to spit in it first?

If they spit in it, it's called "The Ron Pulliam Special".

Otherwise, it's basically very strong and very sweet coffee (sweetened with condensed milk) over ice.  Some Vietnamese restaurants will serve it by giving you the small drip pot/cup, a cup of ice, and a small pitcher of the condensed milk so that you can sweeten it to your taste.  It's always "fun" watching the coffee drip into the glass over the ice.  However, sometimes I prefer it pre-made, and ready to drink once it hits the table.

Oy--we had a huge, overflow audience today and it resulted in the playback sounding very low (since all those extra bodies were just sitting there, sucking up sound waves), resulting in several scary wrong entrances.

Der Brucer and I have just (but much more than barely) survived a power outage tonight.  It's been slightly rainy all day, not hard, just like the last time the power went out.  The bad news was that it was already dark; the good news that I knew where I'd stashed the tea lights I'd bought a few days ago.

The tea lights were a good idea.  I popped them into old-fashioned glasses, which kept the dogs from sniffing at them and blowing them out, and refracted the light pretty well.  "Cut" glass works better for the refraction, I think, spreading the glow more evenly.

Who is coming for dinner on Christmas Eve?

Dinner is at my Cousin Debra's.  Her husband, Rob, will be there along with children Becky and Chad.  Becky is a junior in high school and Chad graduated college last spring.  He works in Augusta GA.

My Aunt Doris and Uncle Rock will be there.  And my cousin Ashley, and her husband David Hayes, will be there.  They live in Greenville SC.

And my mom and I will be there.

That group will all be at my Aunt's house Christmas night, along with my cousin, Butch, his 5-year-old son Benjamin (but not his wife, Judi, who is feuding with my Cousin Debra), my cousin Ricky and his wife Susan, along with Rick's children Lauren and Lindsey (twin daughters attending Greenville Technical College in Greenville SC studying nursing) and, possibly, his son Garrick (layabout, addict and ne'er-do-well) and Garricks' daughter Addison (Addison's mother, not married to Garrick, is on the outs with Garrick and lives with her parents).

The whole clan will be there eating and outtalking one another.

Thank the maker, my mom's house is across the street and I (or we) can leave whenever we can't take it one second longer.

The funniest one for me was the Godmother, who usually jumps the gun about halfway through Impossible(after the brief interlude where Cinderella does her "official wishing").  Well this afternoon she finally came in correctly, and then just stopped cold, and I was completely caught by surprise, so I had this spasmodic episode trying to get my right hand up to play the melody quickly so she'd know where we were, and I did this completely hilarious (to me anyway) version of the melody.

You wanna hear about rain--we're drowning here.  There was literally feet of standing water driving home from the show--it was frightening.

Just heard that 50s starlet Jeanne Carmen passed away on Thursday of lymphoma. She made regular appearences at the Ray Court's Show in Burbank, and, indeed was reunited with her MONSTER OF PIEDRAS BLANCAS co-star Don Sullivan when I attened last summer. She was so vivacious and healthy looking then, it is rather a shock.

Other films include PORTLAND EXPOSE, THE DEVIL'S HAND, TOO MUCH TOO SOON, BORN RECKLESS, UNTAMED YOUTH, GUN'S DON'T ARGUE and the Three Stooges short A MERRY MIX UP.

Good morning, DR LAURA.

It is VERY windy here in Mooresville Indiana....the garbage cans are dancing down the street.
Probably not a soft-shoe.
