And of interest to some DRs, Federated Warehouse also had a nice collection of movie posters.  Well, more like "ads" - they were about 18 inches tall and 6 feet wide/long.  There was also a great oversized poster for the French release of "The Glass Key" ("Un Clé de Verre").

I did read some books this year, but fewer than usual since I was preoccupied with DVDs from February on.

I'm not sure I call them best books, but I certainly enjoyed the Eileen Heckart biography and the autobiography by Tab Hunter. HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS and HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE were both read by me this year, and I actually preferred HALF-BLOOD PRINCE though it was bittersweet having the saga come to an end. I'm sure there were others, but the titles aren't coming to my mind at the moment.

I'm at home doing nothing...other than catching up with all the posts.  Now that I have, I'm going to watch some TV:  the last episode of "Private Practice" and the last two episodes of "Grey's Anatomy."  After that, who knows?

Until later!

Believe it or don't, I actually read some books this year (don't faint DR Elmore).

So the best books I read this year are:

EIJI TSUBURAYA: MASTER OF MONSTERS by August Ragone

KISS TOMORROW GOODBYE: THE BARBARA PAYTON STORY by John O'Dowd ( as super nice guy, by the way)

MURDER AT HOLLYWOOD HIGH by someone named BK

THE FIRST FAMILY OF INDIAN CINEMA: THE KAPOORS: by Madhu Jain

And my most favorite book that I read this year....

FANTASIES OF A BOLLYWOOD LOVE THIEF: by Stephen Alter

Now to watch some more movies...just finished GUYS AND DOLLS...somehow in my 40 something years of watching movie musicals this movie has escaped my notice. Correcting this injustice, Don, our mailroom guy at work, loaned me his DVD of what is his all time favorite film.

Very fun movie and it was most enjoyable to spot my interviewee Lynnette Bernay as one of "The Goldwyn Girls" in several of the musical numbers.

Now what to watch...I have the entire fun of THRILLER on DVDr to watch as well as many episodes of Warner Bros TV series THE ROARING 20S (including one guest starring everyones favorite Daisy Mae, Miss Leslie Parrish).

I actually bought two pairs of the exact same style white tennis shoes, figuring that for $8.99, how bad can they be.  I put them on when I got home and wore them later in the evening and so far, so good. :)

Wearing white after Labor Day is as bad as it can be :D

HERRINGBONE also made DR Julie's Top ten list, IIRC.

Didn't it narrowly loose out to Sweeney Todd for most bloodshed on stage?

Will it pass?

Maybe it's because of all your gutter talk before :)

Well... We shopped here.  We shopped there.  Steve bought some stuff, I didn't buy anything.

We did come across a "new" store while we were driving around called Federated Warehouse.  I put "new" in quotes since FW used to be in another location under a different name.  It's basically a home decor store that features old and new store fixtures, theatrical set pieces, and other large items.

Their old space was a smallish storefront, and this new space was their warehouse.  Well, now the warehouse is the showroom, and they really have done a wonderful job of putting everything on display, and since the space is HUGE, there's plenty of room for strolling and browsing.

They had a couple of these "figurines" on display:

They were part of a Show Me America display/diorama that toured the country.  In person and up close, they are truly detailed and luxuriously made.

I think I would have been more interested in the seven foot tall Woody Woodpecker.

Watching MILLION DOLLAR MERMAID.....Still I am at a loss to explain her popularity.

Like Elvis to come, her films provided glorious family-friendly escape fare for the masses. You always left an Esther Williams' film with a smile on your face.

I've read many books this year; I usually can whip through two or three books per week.
TOD:
LES MISERABLES - Victor Hugo (not the first time)
ANNA KARENINA - Leo Tolstoy (the first time)
A TALE OF TWO CITIES - Charles Dickens (not the first time)
JANE EYRE - one of those Bronte Girls (the first time)

UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN - Jan Krakour - great non-fiction novel about a murder in Mormon territory; includes a great historical background.
BABYLON'S ARK - Lawrence Anthony - the rescue of the zoo animals during the initial volleys of the war in Iraq.
THE YEAR OF LIVING BIBLICALLY - A. J. Jacobs -funny and honest nonfiction about the atheistic author attempting to live by a specific set of rules set down by the writers of The Bible.
THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY - Erik Larson - a mass murder does his dirty work in Chicago as the 1890 Exhibition is built.
THE TOMB - F. Paul Wilson - Mbarnum would like this novel about a group of Indian demons on the loose in Manhattan.
THE STORE and THE RESORT - Bentley Little - two scarefests, the first a scathing indictment of Wal*Wart that is thinly disguised; the latter, a haunted spa in the middle of the Arizona desert.

THE QUEEN IS DEAD
DEAD PAN - two theatrical murder mysteries by Jane Dentinger; highly recommended.

THE SIX MESSIAHS
THE LIST OF SEVEN - two Mark Frost novels which I have recommended here before; the early years of Sherlock Holmes in London and the American West.

GOOD OMENS - Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett - The Apocalypse arrives, hysterically.
