Good morning, all!  I've been caught up in various things this morning: notes in the files on the two Victor Herbert shows, questions concerning 2007 donations for the IRS, and here I am.

My day's two major occupations are already laid out, and I'm off to work.

TOD:
   DVD:  Pickwick Papers (BBC)
CD:  Kristofer McDowell (I survived Jerome Records!), Hansel and Gretel
   VCR:  short art films

Does Art have a last name?

And the word of the day is: IMPRIMATUR!
Having acquired the rights to make DVD copies of The First Nudie Musical, Bruce thought it would be a good idea to include a warning on the cover: IMPRIMATURe audiences only!

Could the media have found a worse photo of Christopher?

I didn't recognize him.

HA!

I'm currently watching the rebroadcast of "Grey's Anatomy", and I guess I had thought last night's episode was over the 50-minute mark.  I guess it wasn't. ;)

Every time I hear about his Sweeny Todd movie it makes me nauseous. And this is coming from someone who loves the old Herschell Gordon Lewis films (although they have been known to make me a bit nauseous, as well).

Michael, have you ever seen the musical.....stupid question.......withdrawn.............

TOD:

The shipment from Jessica's Biscuit arrived today.  So, when it comes to books, I'll be reading:

Laura Shapiro's Something from the Oven, the history of how the food industry tried to totally make over how the American housewife cooked back in the 1950s ... and how they didn't exactly succeed.

Michael Ruhlman's The Elements of Cooking, about the craft of cooking, with just one recipe in the entire book.

Francoise Bernard and Alain Ducasse's The Good Cuisine, about cooking French.

Bobby Flay's Bobby Flay Cooks American, about cooking American.  (Didn't see that one coming, did ya!)

And Carolin C Young's Apples of Gold in Settings of Silver, a lavishly illustrated tome about the history of elegant dining.

One book in this order is on backorder, which is surprising.  The book is Carlo Middione's Traditional Pasta, and what is surprising is that this is the book Jessica's Biscuit is sending me free, as a thank-you for placing such a nice order.

I've also been re-reading Parry Hotter and the Heathly Dallows, and Anthony Bordain's Les Halles Cookbook.

And on the CD front, der Brucer wants me to listen to Disney's Der Glockner Von Notre Dame.  It's in German.  Thank-you, George!

The crawling crud has really had me down for the count. I honestly don't know if it's walking pneumonia or acute bronchitis or what. I hate not having health insurance.
I've been rediscovering the joys of the original DIABLO game (complete with the HELLFIRE expansion) & reading Heinlein's FRIDAY, when I'm unfortunate enough to be conscious. I missed choir practice last night, but I've found I can still sing along with Bonnie Tyler. :D

Of course, it is.  Do you have any idea what wind can do to your shuttlecock?

I saw November on Wednesday....After a while the use of the "F" word loses all meaning. The play runs an hour and 45 minutes and you don't go ten minutes at a time without hearing the "F" word in many different forms, with "er", in plural form, as a gerund, take your pick....

I did listen to The Actors Fund Benefit performance of CHESS.  Wow!  I like this recording very much indeed.  Sutton Foster, Julia Murney, Josh Groban, Raoul Esparza, Adam Pascal and Norm Lewis.  It's quickly becoming my favorite CHESS recording. . .now if they only had Judy Kuhn instead of Miss Murney. . . .

I think that was my favorite of all the Actors Fund benefit concerts.  It was one of those "electricity in the audience" nights.  People were very excited and curious to hear Josh Groban sing Anthem.  But Chess has been a guilty pleasure of mine ever since I first saw it in London.

Another thing "they do" in America that is beneath all the contempt I can manage to muster at any given time is the abuse of subject-verb agreement.

"If anyone (singular) wishes to donate clothes to a good cause, they (plural) should contact Grace Larson at the church."

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Yes, it is incorrect.  But the underlying reason for this common usage is the desire to be gender neutral.  It gets awkward to keep saying "If anyone wishes to donate clothes to a good cause, he or she should contact Grace Larson at the church.
