I didn't take a photo of it, but one of the nearby cities has always made a huge "Christmas Tree" out of tumbleweeds.

We are going to watch MEDIUM.  Somehow we didn't record the previous week's episode.  Have I mentioned lately how much we miss TIVO & dislike the new DVR software from Direct TV?

Hmm... Tonight's first installment of "American Idol" was, well, sort of boring.  And it seems like they sold a TON of commercial time - I'm tempted to go back to the DVR and actually time the commercial breaks.  It seemed like over the course two hour broadcast, about an hour of it was made up of commercials and/or bumpers.

"Clap yo' hands!" like your were "An American in Paris"!

Have you ever played the 4 hands version? (With another pianist, of course...)

I was surprised to read that Brad Renfro died. Only 25 years old, what a shame

From the moment he entered the limelight from the movies, his life has been troubled. Here is someone who most assuredly could not handle success.

I began my evening by watching the Val Lewton documentary which I recorded off TCM last night. I figured I'd go ahead and watch it and erase it from the DVR.

Very good show, very interesting and sad life. How ironic someone with that much success just never seemed to be truly happy.

And no Dr. Drew Casper among the talking heads either! In fact, they went to Japan to get some of their experts.

I would guess they're migrating from the baseboards behind the bookcases with CD player and amplifier.  Yikes!  That's a lot of books to move.

Be careful, dear Elmore!

DR elmore - If you haven't done so already, CHECK YOUR BOOKS!  And your boxes of books.  Just grab a few off each shelf and check their bindings for "nymphs".  If you see any trace of them, well... start microwaving!  :-\

Not if they're Singing Nymphs!

Then, I squeezed in four more episodes of HAWAII FIVE-O. More guest stars on parade: Dewey Martin, John Vernon, Andrew Duggen, Peter Bonerz, Ed Flannery.

James MacArthur is sadly underused in the show, but at least in episode #7, he got to be the primary investigator since Jack Lord almost got blown up.

And I finished my evening with tonight's BOSTON LEGAL. Hadn't seen Bess Armstrong in awhile, and Grant Shaud was also on (though in no scenes with Candice Bergen).

This will undoubtedly be one of William Shatner's Emmy submission episodes.

And I guess if we want to be politically correct, we can refer to DR Edi's DH as "Oh, Piece of Something a Bird Could Fashion!" instead of "Oh, Crap!" ...

LOL!  I'll tell my "piece" hello for you!

Yes, I have.  I remember buying a copy of the LaBecque Sisters recording of various, and subsequently, the sheet music for the two-piano version which was rediscovered/prepared for their recording.  In fact, I remember buying it at Boston Music Co. in Boston since I was up there visiting my godparents.

I played through it in college with a friend.  Alas, he still has the Piano II part - and the score was not published as a "score" - so all I have is the Piano I part.  Guess I should buy another set of parts sometime.

*And I've always wondered what the LaBecques "did" to the piano during the blues section - there's definitely something on those strings.

Oh... That was the Two-Pianos, Four Hands version.... Although, I think there is a One Piano, Four Hands version too.

OH!  And I meant to mention the other day, that I've also played the One Piano, Four Hands version of Milhaud's "Le Beouf sur la Toit"!

I was just perusing Playbill.com and came across THIS article about the opening night of The Little Mermaid.  What I found MOST exciting was this passage:

Quote
Composer Stephen Schwartz, whose Wicked shares a common demographic with the Chicklet of the Sea, owes a couple of Oscars to Disney films, so one can't help wondering when his Disney-animated film will turn into a Broadway musical.

"I think we're starting up Hunchback of Notre Dame, hopefully, next year. Rumor has reached my ear that it's happening."

;D :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D

HOPEFULLY, they won't have the "happy" ending for this (potential) Broadway version like the movie had. :)

I have the old piano roll version, so I'm assuming it's one piano...

Hmm... Some self-corrections:

The pianist I saw last night at Carnegie Hall was Radu Lupu, not Rada Lupu.

And it's the Labèque Sisters (Katia & Marielle), not the LaBecque Sisters.

And, apparently, there is not a Piano Duet (1 piano, 4 hands) version of Gershwin's "An American In Paris" available.

-And I still find it sort of strange that the Gershwin catalog is now distributed by Alfred Publishing.  ???
