According to Wikipedia, Evelyn Wood is no longer with us:

Quote
Evelyn Wood (Logan, Utah, January 8, 1909 – August 26, 1995), sometimes known as "the Pioneer of Speed Reading," learned how to read quickly by watching fast readers. She coined the phrase, "speed reading" and developed a system that was taught in seminars. She and her husband started the Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics. Until the late 1990's classes were frequently taught on college campuses in the USA. Her book was published in 1959. White House staff members in the Kennedy, Ford, and Carter administrations took the course.

Her method has been copied and reiterated by many other speed reading authors. Her method is to read every word by using a finger or pointer, such as a pen to move under each line of text at a steady pace. Her system is based on the idea that every person reads a word at the same rate, but a poor reader re-reads words. The pacing hand prevents re-reading, the brain does not need to interpret a jumble of words, with a resulting increase in comprehension, speed, and enjoyment. She died after a nine year decline after her second stroke.

While Mame certainly ranks as one of the biggest misfires, for me, I think the movie version of Bye Bye Birdie stinks to high heaven. What a mess. Between the miscasting, the plot changes, and the incredible stupidity of the super speed Russian ballet thing I run screaming from the room whenever this piece of junk is mentioned.

This morning's a mess between an emergency situation here at the apartment ad a necessary appointment with my accountant on this year's IRS return.  More later.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up...  And I did forgo - so, does that mean I "forwent" - going to the gym this morning (I will go this afternoon), as well as going down to Chelsea to get my haircut before today's round of auditions (I will go take care of that tomorrow).  Sleep, ah, precious sleep.

As for the Topic of the Day...

"A Chorus Line" - Although, there's just something so terribly bad and wrong about the movie that "appeals" to me.  ;)  And I don't think it should ever be remade.  Instead, once time machines are invented, they should go back to 1975-76 and make a proper video of the original Broadway company.

TOD:

Annie

Chorus Line _- which they'll never get right, because they don't know how to leave well enough alone.  Smae with annie, although even the ABC version was somewhat better... in some ways.

Cabaret was probably the most brilliant movie version-totallly differnet from the stqage play, the musical play but, Fosse got it alllllll right.

I had never seen this quote from E.Y. Harburg before:

Words make you think a thought.
Music makes you feel a feeling.
A song makes you feel a thought.
