Nah.  That's why a lot of pianists hum along while the play.  ;)

A suggestion for the Chance theatre folks?

OH!  And as DR elmore is my witness: I actually walked by Levain, and did NOT go in and buy a cookie!

;D

*However, I did do some grocery shopping at Fairway, and picked up some supplies to make some cookies.  -And said cookies are happily cooling away on the dining room table.  AND I haven't had one of those either!

Oh, "The Red Balloon" (ou "Le Ballon Rouge")!  When I was in grade school, we would watch that every year.  I will definitely be purchasing a copy for myself when it gets released at the end of the month.

When we first met about the show we discussed the band.  Initially they said they were thinking just piano and I said that wouldn't work.  I then agreed to donate my salary for the reed and second keyboard and they said they'd go to their board and ask them to match my offer with the bass and drums.  And that's what I assumed was going to happen.  Apparently their board said no.  But, I didn't know this until yesterday - if I'd known it weeks and weeks ago I might have been able to do something about it - but with under three weeks left I'm at a loss.  The head guy is supposed to call me in the next couple of days to discuss - he's in Vietnam right now visiting his family, but will make the time to chat about it.  I'm concerned on any number of levels, not least of which is that I don't think our musical director can play all the reed and synth lines that he'd need to cover if it's just a trio - he's got his hands full just trying to play his piano part.

I really would not have agreed to do the show had I known this upfront - that's how important I think the "sound" of the band is.

Moses was high on drugs

Quote
High on Mount Sinai, Moses was on psychedelic drugs when he heard God deliver the Ten Commandments, an Israeli researcher claimed in a study published this week.
Such mind-altering substances formed an integral part of the religious rites of Israelites in biblical times, Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem wrote in the Time and Mind journal of philosophy.

"As far Moses on Mount Sinai is concerned, it was either a supernatural cosmic event, which I don't believe, or a legend, which I don't believe either, or finally, and this is very probable, an event that joined Moses and the people of Israel under the effect of narcotics," Shanon told Israeli public radio on Tuesday.

Moses was probably also on drugs when he saw the "burning bush," suggested Shanon, who said he himself has dabbled with such substances.

Does this explain Val Kilmer's portrayal?

At this stage in Bain's development I would think no performance would be better than an inferior one!

I have been watching BROADWAY: THE MUSICAL on Netflix online.  I had never gotten around to seeing it before.  I am enjoying it a great deal.  I just finished Part 5, about the changes from the tradional musical to the new modern musical, such as A CHORUS LINE or COMPANY.  One thing I found so strange was in the footage of the recording of the original Braodway cast of COMPANY.  And of the actors standing next to Elaine Stritch during the recording is actually smoking a cigarette.

Boy, have times changed.  We used to smoke onstage, backstage, at work, in the movie theaters.  Things have certainly changed.  Now, at least in Washington State, about the only place you can smoke besides your house and your car, is in the Indian casinos - because they are a sovereign nation and do not have to follow state laws.

Umm... Having seen The Ten Commandments live at the Kodak Theater, well... I think it would have been a much better show if the audience was on drugs.  ;)

Iowa just passed the public building smoking ban - with the same exceptions.  I can't wait!  I hate going into a restaurant to eat and smelling someone else's smoke.  I am very excited to return to some of the places I quit going to because of the smoke

Our resort cities are now considering a beach and Boardwalk smoking ban - which will no doubt infuriate about 25% of the tourists!

Under our new ban you can't smoke in an outdoor setting if it's the place of an event or attached to the restaurant like outdoor seating or a beer garden

Of the new BBC Jane Austen's I think NORTHANGER ABBEY is the best of the lot. It's very funny, which the book is, and the heroine Catherine Morland, like Voltaire's Candide one of the great idiots of literature, does not come off as the nincompoop she is in the book and that's a good thing.

DR Ginny, Thanks for telling us about The Memory Keeper's Daughter.  I've had the book for a long time and just couldn't bring myself to read it. It wasn't an easy movie to watch, but it was good.

Good Evening!

As DR elmore already mentioned, we both thought "Run Fatboy Run" to be quite a charming movie.  It's not a spoof/tribute like "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" were, but it is very much in the vein of the classic "the underdog becomes an over-dog" movies.

*And it was nice to see that Hank Azaria has been working out lately.  ;)

Lately?

He's had that rockin' body for quite a few years now. Even though I know he has it, it always rocks my world every time I see him in a production and he takes off his shirt for some reason.
