Almost forgot media check today:

DVD:
1934 film THE WOMAN CONDEMNED

Currently in the middle of 1999's GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA.

VHS: MURDER AT THAT GALLOP
MURDER BY AN ARISTOCRAT

CD: Soundtrack to LAKSHYA

And this weekends Bollywood movie, if I have time to watch it, is: NIGHT IN LONDON. It is something about and Indian girl visiting England and stolen diamonds and a dancing Oriental girl. I think there will be some music in it and maybe some dancing.

I've seen those DVD sets of ANNIE OAKLEY et al, but I was always afraid for that price they'd look horrible, so I've never bought them. Can someone who has give us a recommendation or review?

I have not purchased those particular sets but I did buy the sets of BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, LASSIE, U.S. MARSHALL and SHOTGUN SLADE and the prints on all are fantastic. And as each set has from like 8 to 12 episodes you can't beat it for just $5.99 They are put out buy the same budget company as the ANNIE OAKLEYs, etc.

I have also picked up several of those $1 dvds at the dollar store and most of the prints were great (for instance the MR AND MRS NORTH and THE BURNS AND ALLEN).

Big regret of my life that I never took the time to drive out to Victorville, California to see the Roy Rogers Museum while he and Dale were still alive.  I remember once on a drive across country back to Kentucky, going right by it and thinking I should just pull in and a spend a little time there...but I was on a schedule and drove on by, thinking being so close, I could do it anytime.  And never did.  Roy Rogers was probably my first big hero as a kid.

More on Bounce: The band is huge twenty strings for the album - I'm telling you, it sounds like the Merrily orchestra we had for our recording (twelve pieces, I think).  The credits are also curious - a) Ariel Tepper helped fund the recording, b) there are two producers listed, and then a strange credit below that says "Sessions produced by".  Don't think I understand that one at all.

Cisco Kid.  Love it - Duncan Reynaldo and Leo Carillo - "Hey Ceesco"  "Hey, Pancho".

Yes, I know Dear Reader MBarnum, and we don't even know how fortunate we are!

We even got Fahrenheit 911 BEFORE anyone!! (Oops!)

Okay, I was bad - my new high score is 220,920.  Has anyone scored higher?

I've only played once so far, scoring 242,240.  Looks like Arnold M. Brockman's 298,270 is the HHW high score at the moment.  Guess that means I'll have to play again. :D

Well, my neighbor just handed me a ton of mail that my postman dumped in front of my door today.  Included were the FINE AND DANDY recordings postmarked May 13.  It took the US Post Office 8 days to get a package from Bronxville, NY, about 45 minutes away!  I've had media mail take as long as six weeks.  I hope that when DR Panni takes over world domination via Bookworm that the postal service is the first of so many deserving butts kicked.  I've already promised her a chunk of my big lottery win, so it's the least I expect in return from a global dominatrix.

But what do you all do when those stupid burning tiles start multiplying like crazy?  Is there some trick to it?

Just a warning: The notes may go up later than usual, depending on what time I get home from the theater.

DR Noel - As for Ricky Ian Gordon, Jason Robert Brown, Michael John LaChiusa and Adam Guettel - or the "anointed" as you like to call them... None of them have had any real new work so far this century - well, maybe JRB's Last Five Years and AG's Light in the Piazza, and MJLaC's Marie Christine...

I'm puzzled.  All four three-named composers (Guettel's middle name is YouHaveToLikeMeBecauseI'mRichardRodgers'Grandson) have plenty of work done here in the 21st Century.

Gordon had My Life With Albertine, and I think The Tibetian Book of the Dead.  Probably another one I'm forgetting.  Michael John LaChiusa wrote The Wild Party as well as an off-Broadway musical, was it called Little Fish? and I heard a wonderful song he wrote in response to 9/11.  Brown's always writing: There was The Last Five Years and some uncountable number of songs for Urban Cowboy.  And Guettel, as you mentioned, did The Light in the Piazza.

DR Panni: Sorry so many questions, but it's very interesting.  If you watch the Joan of Arcadia tapes, does that mean that you are supposed to watch all the other tapes in that category? Or could some people actually just watch Joan and vote for it because of the singing box.

I guess selling the stuff probably isn't right.  But trading it or giving it away sounds nice.

Jason I have never heard of Dippin’ Dots and am not sure I want to try them, at least not enough to purchase an entire container.  I am curious now if they are sold in Ashland.

Panni when/if you do watch the tapes I would like to know what you think.  I’m not sure “Jump” would have been my first choice.  What do you think Stuart?
I wouldn’t have been able to sell them either.  Nursing homes are a great place to donate them.

Jennifer I have been enjoying your questions, and of course Panni’s answers.

HollyLynn it’s nice to know the little things do make a difference-nice story.

MBarnum, thanks for the info.  I will see if we get the station.  Oh does Keith wish we had a Best Buy here.  Maybe soon.
I can’t seem to post the Table Rock photos.  Do you want to give them a try?

Of course I think DR Panni could ship the entire collection to a retirement home in Upper Beaconsfield Ayustralia. Only two human residents but there are also two appreciative dogs. Don't worry about the sapling - it would not get past quarantine; even with the help of its friend the singing box.
Just trying to be helpful.

Not my style, mais, for once, just a little gossiping from me!

Got the Michael Feinstein's cd of songs of Jimmy Webb (DON'T give me the evil eye, Dear Reader Tomovoz, please!) for 6.50 euros tonight..... and I'm just looking at one of the photos of the gentleman that grace the booklet....

Has Michael F. had a facelift lately?

He looks slightly different and.... weird!

Dear Reader Ben,

Michael Ball has had a facelift... Hmmm No!
Michael Ball's BBC Radio show is a sequel to one he had before!

Michael Feinstein had one on the BBC Radio too -- Radio 3, I believe -- on American Composers.....

Media Check:

Cd player was jiggy with the talents of Barbara Cook -- at Carnegie Hall -- and Caterina Valente (songs in French, English and German) lately....

Any Caterina Valente's "afficionados" around here? :)

From Paris with love!  -- my favourite James Bond movie :D.

Jennifer - I think at this stage of the voting, for the most part, people will vote for shows they've watched and liked through the year. Once in a while something gets introduced through things that are sent out. I think this applies more for movies than anything else. I hardly ever watch MOWs (even though I write them - or maybe BECAUSE I write them) - but I (sometimes) will watch ones I've been sent. This was the case a few years ago for THE BELIEVER. Had never even heard of it - watched it - and discovered one of the most interesting, disturbing films I'd seen in years. Voted for it.
Once the finals are in - then there are a finite number of shows to watch. And there are volunteer juries for that (I didn't volunteer this year).
I think awards, like so many other things (see DR Jose earlier today) are a matter of luck almost as much as anything else. It's really nice to win - but if you truly believe that it has great meaning, think again. And this isn't sour grapes speaking. I've won a few, lost a few. It's nicer  to win, natch. And when you do, for a full five minutes - sometimes even a whole evening - you think it means something. Newsflash: it doesn't. You still have to go home and face the blank paper and sweat blood to write something decent. (BTW - I talked about this before, but in case you didn't see it - to prove my point about "winners" and "losers"... The first time I was nominated for the Emmy, I lost. My fellow "losers" in my category were Neil Simon and Robert Bolt.)

Over priced for Michael F - but not so for Jimmy Webb.
My favourite Jimmy Webb interpretations are by Mr Art Garfunkel.
I know Barbara Cook has a new Cd due - my friendly music store in Melbourne has ordered on my behalf and I knew nothing about it. Old fashioned service still exists.

I was of course joking Panni but I will take your offer seriously. Sometimes we don't ever get some American shows. (I have enough saplings).
