Dying on stage department:  I played Jerry in Zoo Story throughout high school (try performing that one at State, held at BYU in Utah, LOL), and of course got that great death scene after that insane monologue and the fight with the knife.  We worked out two strategies--I had to die on the park bench, so people could definitely see me, but we decided to have me wear a windbreaker that kind of hid my stomach, and I "died" sort of sideways.  Then I practiced taking quick, shallow breaths that didn't involve much diaphragm action, and it seemed to work out very well.  I won Best Actor, as I'm sure you all know.   ;D

I am very excited--my review copy of The Fall of the Roman Empire came today.  In some ways, it's my favorite Bronston (though I do love me my 55 Days at Peking).

Has anyone ever heard of a group called The Manhattan Transfer?  They are coming to the Western Washington Fair in September with Al Jarreau.  They must be new.   ;)

What this all boils down to, SingoutLouise, is that you have a running start on giving the World Premiere performance of my cabaret song.  :)

I think that Janis Seigel was one of the judges who gifted me with the "Voices of the New Jazz Culture" award I won from Jazziz.  I know that Jon Hendricks was, anyway.

LA TIMES

Quote
.INAUGURATION ALTERS 2009 OSCAR CALENDAR

Politics takes precedence over Oscar noms.

From the Associated Press
April 14, 2008

What's more significant: the inauguration of a new U.S. president or the announcement of the year's Oscar nominees? The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences decided politics takes precedence, announcing Monday that it has delayed the nominations announcement by two days.

Oscar nominees are usually revealed on a Tuesday about four weeks before the big show, which is typically held the last Sunday in February. For 2009, though, the targeted Tuesday -- Jan. 20 -- is Inauguration Day.

So the 81st annual Oscar nominees will be revealed Thursday, Jan. 22, and the Academy Awards will be presented Sunday, Feb. 22 -- the earliest Oscars ever
