I'm at work, entering invoices into our computer so that they can be paid at our library board meeting in a week and a half.  All of the (current) invoices have to be paid before next Friday, so there's plenty of time.  I want to make up some time today.  So far, so good. :)

Good Afternoon, once again!

Hmm... It smells like someone is baking cinnamon rolls nearby... Hmm...

...And I also keep hearing a voice in the distance, like someone on a megaphone... And there's a bit of crowd noise too... -Is there a Yankees' Game today?  ???  -Although, now that I think of it, I think it's a "Latinos for Obama" rally in the park nearby.

Jose, I really like the new avatar.  And you take nice pictures.

Thanks, DR George et al.

The last time I had pics taken was at least 15 years ago... Hmm.. maybe even 20! -And Chris took them then too.  He was living in Boston at the time, and I drove up for a visit and a photo shoot.  -Oh, and he also took some nice portraits of me and Steve too.  :)

It really is hard to have your pic be taken.  Well, to be natural and relaxed while you're having your picture taken.  And just like you see on shows like "America's Next Top Model", sometimes you have to put your body in a sort of unnatural pose in order to get a natural shot.  I had to do a lot of neck craning and shoulder adjusting.  And even though we were concentrating on my face, I really had to keep track of the rest of my body.  I also started off in my usual giggly and/or too serious mode since a friend was taking pics.  I have a feeling if the photographer was someone I didn't know well, I might have had settled in faster.  Or maybe not.  ???

Thank you kindly, but my "ingenue" days are well past, I'm afraid.  :)

OK, I'm off for 2.5 more hours of information-waitressing, then a trip to Border's!

Bye for now!

Driving to and from our daily hike I pass a house that has two signs for president on the front yard, one for Obama & one for Clinton. ;D  After the primary's I'll be watching to see if one of those signs is removed or replaced with a McCain sign.

I got an actual real-life (not a robocall) call from one of the candidates for Oregon Attorney General yesterday.  I was sort of amazed (Betsy hasn't turned in her ballot yet, so we're likely targets, I guess).

Thanks for the book tips, DR Ginny - the Gould book sounds very interesting.  Of course, the book's title could also be the title of one of DR elmore3003's VHS tapes!?!

Thanks Ginny.  It looks like something my book group would enjoy reading.

Here are some I'm considering for my group:

The Secret of Lost Things, by Sheridan Hay
Flower Confidential, by Amy Stewart
Loving Frank, by Nancy Horan
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, by Barbara Kingsolver
Julie and Julia, by Julie Powell

These are our selections for the summer:

June - My Home is Far Away, by Dawn Powell
July - The Trees, by Conrad Richter
August - The House of Mirth, by Edith Wharton (we'll have a potluck dinner and watch the Gillian Anderson movie version)

For September, we usually try to read a book that ties into our local international festival, which this year is featuring Mongolia.  Any suggestions?

I did get to see Thursday night's season finale of SMALLVILLE.

Having read about contract negotiations with some of the regular actors, I wasn't surprised at all where the story went concerning them. Was pleasantly surprised with some other developments.

I also read yesterday that since Justin Hartley's pilot for the CW didn't get picked up, they're planning on bringing him back to SMALLVILLE (as Green Arrow) as a regular next season. Wonderful news!

I watched the season finale of CSI also. A touching/shocking swan song for Gary Dourdan who isn't returning next season. They have hired a new female CSI to take Jorja Fox's place.

Why don't I see WATER FOR ELEPHANTS on your list?

I don't know how I missed that your group read FOLLOW THE RIVER.  That book has really stayed with me.

And I managed to watch the first half hour of MY NAME IS EARL. It's the funniest the show has been since it came back from strike-induced hiatus. Looking forward to the second half, but I won't likely get to it until tomorrow.

Need to take a break from sitting here like so much fish.  And then I need to get ready to go have an early supper and see The Brain.
