Time for another Rebellion!

According to Samuel Bronston's son, the DVD of 55 Days at Peking is coming soon!

I have a finger cot, for when my finger gets sleepy. (Or when it wants to meet other fingers...)  :)

My big challenge for today is figuring out how to take a shower without getting my left foot wet.

Borrow a page from Cleopatra's book - have your Nubian servants give you sponge baths (when not fanning you and feeding you dates).

I would just like to formally thank the various denizens of HHW for knowing that lyric is singular.  That's all, goodbye.

Not always!

"Rose's Turn" has a lyric, "Gypsy" has lyrics.

Good Afternoon!

Well, I'm back for a post-movie break - and also to get my MoMA membership card from my other wallet.

I did go see "The Happening".  There was an 11:30 showing at the AMC Magic Johnson Theatres down on 125th Street - just 20 blocks, or one express stop away on the subway.

Well...  After a while - and it felt like a long while - it became more of a game of "spot the New York City actor" to me.  -And I believe a few others in the theatre.  It was basically the only way to keep from laughing.

Apparently, M. Night was hoping that this movie would redeem his Hollywood cred, well... IMHO, he has a whole lot more redeeming to do.  What a truly strange - in all senses of the word - and stupid - in all senses of that word - it is.  It's almost so bad and stupid that I may have to see it again.  NOT!

Thankfully, I only spent $6.00, so... Not too bad.  -And I was able to get part of today's crossword puzzle down during the 15 minutes(!?!?!?) of previews.

How do they "make" tomatoes in Canada?

In spite of der Brucer's map yesterday, California has been ruled out as a source for the tainted tomatoes.

The map highlighted the source of victims, not the original source of the tomatoes.

DR FJL - have you heard Debbie Gravitte Shapiro's recording of "Sing For Your Supper"?  She sings all three parts herself!   :)

Dawn Upshaw did the same thing on her Rodgers & Hart album.  -Which also features a duet with Audra McDonald - which always has me asking, "Who's singing now?" - their voices are eerily similar.

And we certainly do know how to "make" victims.     :-\

LOL!  Actually, when I'm ensconsed on the loveseat here in my study/dressing room, with my foot propped up on pillows, I do feel sort of like Cleopatra.

As for the tomato scare... Well, after seeing "The Happening", well.... ;)

*However, I just wish there would be more emphasis that the problem is with raw, uncooked tomatoes.  By cooking them, you will kill the salmonella.  In any case, I do understand the concern, and at this point and time, I believe it is better to "over react" than under react until the exact cause of the problem is found.  One really can't be too careful when dealing with a potentially death-causing bacteria.

I'll be interested to hear thoughts on The Happening.  You can't go one block without seeing some huge billboard for it, but all I think of when I see the title is the Faye Dunaway hippie comedy from the late 60s.

Well, as for my thoughts... See above.

However, I have to say Betty Buckley really does give quite the "performance" as Mrs. Jones.

POSSIBLE "THE HAPPENING" SPOILER

I think I had figured out the "reason" for what was happening in "The Happening" - well, at least why it happened to some people and not others.  There is a lot of talk about math in the movie, and I suspect certain numbers are the key to figure it out.  God knows, no reason was given for it in the movie.  -Oh, but it was fun seeing the different ways the director/writer chose to kill off people - and those events were certainly less laugh-inducing than somemost of the dialog.

DR Jennifer - As for "So You Think You Can Dance?"

I actually haven't seen last night's elimination yet, but I already know who went home, so... No big deal.

As for who got featured and who did not during the preliminary rounds, well, that's just the way things work.  You may not like it, I may not like it, but I think it's just better to accept that "imbalance" and just enjoy the show.  At this point, it's just a given.

I do have to say, I really think the choreographers have really stepped it up this season.  -Alas, I wish Tyce Diorio would stop those "Theatre Dance" segments.  Theatre Dance nowadays covers too much ground.  Just because he choreographs to a theatre song does not make it "theatre dance".  And a lot of the time, he uses a cover version of a theatre song and not the original.*  However, his modern stuff from past shows has been pretty good.  His theatre stuff just looks like stuff you would see and do in a class.  And not a good class at that.

As for Mia Michaels "Wedding" routine...  Eh.  I got what she was doing, but I wish the lighting had been brighter so that you could actually see the dancers and the dancing.

*And I really wish the technical producers could fix the sound imbalances between some of the older and newer tracks they use.  You can definitely tell when they're playing an original analog track and when they're playing a digital one.

I went over to rottentomatoes.com, a site I truly loathe, to check out some reviews for The Happening.  It's not a pretty picture from most of the major critics, I must say.
