RE: Last nights discussion on oil / gas prices; I would like to see a list of every Senator and Reprsentative that owns stock in the oil companies; as well as what share of their portfolio.

Everyone keeps rambling about how Congress should come in and stop these high gas prices.  Isn't that the same as asking the fox to guard the henhouse?

Or asking DR JoseSPiano to attend the Tony rehearsal?     ;)

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm currently watching this week's "Theatre Talk" courtesy of the DVR.  And right now, they're "analyzing" the current revival of Grease.  ;)

I guess during my time in the Park yesterday, I had ended up breathing in a little too much Nature.  I wasn't feeling sneezy, sniffly or stuffy-headed last night, I was just feeling a bit off and tired.  So, after I realized I had fallen asleep in front of the TV during "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List" - which I didn't think would ever be possible - I just headed to bed.  And eight+ hours later... :)

So... Should I see "The Happening" today?  -As a way of "celebrating" Friday the 13th, of course.  ;)

Good morning, all! I slept late. and I've been gathering information from a lot of loverly folk on the cast recording list who respondedto my inquiry yesterday with a virtual plethora of information and offers of gifts.  Today, I have a date with Kip Wilborn at 1 pm to hand over his charts, and I have a new chart to begin for the singing cop Daniel Rodriguez.

TOD:
DVD: new Netflix, a couple of operas including LA FILLE DU REGIMENT with Dessay and Florez
CD: She's A Good Fellow and The City Chap (Kern), the EMI complete SHOWBOAT, The Brain from Planet X, Rufus Wainwright
VCR: military maneuvers and other documentaries

As for the Friday Media Check:

Sergio Mendes - "Encanto" - Boy do the tracks on this album make a subway ride go by very fast!  And there's just no way for me to listen to this without dancing a little bit and smiling.

A Catered Affair OCR - I was a bit hesitant about purchasing this since I was not too thrilled by the show in person, however, in some ways it works better on record.  -From a licensing standpoint, I just have to wonder how Harvey Fierstein's music is notated.  ;)

Kelli O'Hara - "Wonder in the World" - It's a good album, but most definitely a mellow album.  Alas, I do share the same quibble that a lot of the Critics have with the album - the re-arranged and re-grooved "Fable" from The Light in the Piazza.  It really does sound a bit forced.  And the quasi-Latin treatment of "I Have Dreamed", well... :-\

In The Heights OCR - Calor! Calor!! Calor!!!

Eric Cutler, tenor; Bradley Moore, pianist - "Debut" - I came across this recital disc while browsing at Virgin.  It actually came out a few years ago, and is/was a part of EMI's "Debut" series - I think Nathan Gunn's first recital disc was released under this imprint too.  And it was only $8.00!  Quite a nice disc, and it's nice to hear Bradley Moore again - I remember him from his days at the University of Maryland.

In my DVD player this weekend?

I'll probably finish watching the 3rd season of WEEDS and, assuming it arrives today, start the 3rd season of THE CLOSER.

The other day, I watched THE FURIES, which is the only Anthony Mann western I'd never seen.

In its glorious black-and-white, it was beautiful to look at, but SOOO talky.

If Eugene O'Neill had ever written a western, it would certainly have been something like this one.

Where's Jimmy Stewart when you need him?

I'm newbie Mark's "lovely wife," Amy. Thanks for calling me "lovely," Bruce! Sorry this post is so late, but I understand there was a request for the pineapple pie recipe. It's embarrassingly quick and simple, so you'll have plenty of time left in the day to lay around like so much fish or drive around in your motorcar (if you can still afford a tank of gas). Here it is:

In a bowl, mix 1 can crushed pineapple (in juice, not syrup), 1/4 cup sugar, a dash of salt, 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of instant tapioca pudding mix, and 1 squeeze of lemon. Pour the mixture into the bottom pie shell. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to drain off about half the pineapple juice first. I neglected to do this with Bruce's pies, and the filling tends to boil and create large fissures in the top crust, which made them pretty darn ugly pies. Then, lay the top crust on top, pinch the edges together, and poke in the steam holes. Make sure you use just regular size crusts - this is definitely NOT a deep-dish pie. Then, bake for 45 minutes at 400 degrees.

The reading of "First Nudie Musical" was wonderful! I disagree that "Perversion" fell flat. It was delightful hearing Bruce put out his best Cuban accent ("I'll play chhhard to get, if that gets you chhhard"). The highlight of the evening was hearing how Bruce had greatly developed the stunt c**k character. He's no longer just a freak of nature who refuses to take off his hat. The new song in that bit is what had me in tears. If anything fell flat, it's the unnecessary finger hat. I understand it was necessary in the movie due to the Lavern-and-Shirley-longer-hair-6-months-later-issue, but that issue wouldn't exist now and I don't understand what a “finger scene” is and why is Rosie wearing a finger hat when she's not even supposed to be in the show at that point. It all sort of went like a DVD of Tai-Pan where you're watching for 30 minutes and don't know what's going on, even though this finger bit only took about 30 seconds. The bit just doesn't make any sense, but maybe if Bruce explains it, I'll find it hilarious.

The local movie reviewer gave the film one and a half stars (out of four). He didn't find it very scary.

Good morning!

My A/C/ flipped on this morning before 7:30! That is very unusual and emblematic of how hot and muggy it is here right now. Ugh!

We got no rain yesterday, but they're calling for a 20% chance later today for showers.

Well, after all the build-up for this movie, I figured it was either going to be brilliant or stupid, and after looking at the star-ratings, well...  However, it's only 90 minutes, and I can catch a matinee for $7.00, so...  We shall see.  Or not.

Believe me, I put no store by his ratings. He gave both SWEENEY TODD and SEX AND THE CITY 1 1/2 stars, so there you go.
