One of the cast members took some shots during Havana. Here I am after my "featured dance" dancing with Sky on the left.

So I have LOTS to watch this week!

I would say "break a leg" T-Punk, but with after seeing 3 of our HHW ladies benched by foot injuries, I won't risk it!

Yesterday my DH had to prep for a huge job today (they really should have hired an assistant for him) so I had the day to myself. I went to the home of an artist who was offering to dig extra plants out of her garden for her faithful customers.

It was kind of a weird thing...I wasn't sure if she expected me to buy more of her work, since I was invited to browse through her gallery before we went out digging.

She really didn't dig properly---most of the stuff she just pulled up by hand, leaving roots behind. But I do think I got a few things that will survive.

After we were done, she said she had something to "share" with me. I was afraid a ploy for religious conversion was on the agenda, but it turned out she just wanted me to switch gas providers. I was relieved, and will probably do it, too. It looks like a good deal!

I was also able to get some nice outdoor pots and a trellis at nearby shops for a good price.

Then I stopped by Marietta for a little of the Juneteen celebration, and stopped in to my favorite antique store to say goodbye and give hugs to the owner, who is closing down after decades. (I think he's got a touch of Alzheimers.)

There are lots of antique stores in downtown Marietta, but his was the only one that had items of real quality, so he will be missed. Plus he's a sweet guy. I hope to still see him around...

Glad to read that DR FJL is back safe & sound, and that everything worked out, and that the show was worth the trip.  :)

Yesterday, DR Jose posted:

Quote
DR SWW - As for the "Yogurt Rule" - which I've always interpreted as applying to any single item you happen to be buying in a multiple quantity...

-I guess it's the "fault" of the barcode scanner - and more intricate inventory control and tracking measures -  but whatever happened to the days where you and/or the clerk would count up the quantity of a particular item, enter than quantity on the keypad and then the price?

Well, Jose, for one thing, most items do not have the price written on them any more.  So, we cannot enter the quantity and then the price... how are we supposed to know the price?

Further complicating this, is that if we were to enter the quantity and then scan one of the item, that assumes that all the items being included are the same.  Too often, it was found that the clerk was mistaken in assuming they were the same.  Instead, when a more detailed inspection was made, it would turn out that the customer was purchasing six of one and a half dozen of something totally another.

Final problem: re inventory, each flavor of those yogurt cups has it's own bar code.  This tells both the retailer and the manufacturer of the yogurt what types of yogurt are selling, and which lines should be ordered and which discontinued.

We gotta scan each and every, pain in the ass as it may be.

After I got home and got everything into the dirt, I checked my email and learned that my eldest cousin died. She's had emphysema and was down to about 90 pounds.

I never would have guessed that someone who could grow up in wealth and privledge, very beautiful (she looked like Elizabeth McGovern when she was young) could end up as a schizophrenic Buddhist bag lady in Boulder (still very wealthy but cleaning hotels for a living.) Such a sad ending for such a nice person.

To TCB:, yes, we still have one drive-in in Atlanta, and it's still very popular, espcially on Labor Day, when Drive-Invasion takes over for 3 days and it's an all-day, all-night tailgate party with B-movies, luminaries like Herschell Gorden Lewis, live music and vintage cars.

http://www.driveinvasion.com

This is usually where were spend at least one evening during the Labor Day weekend!

I'm not sure if commercial plugs are allowed on this board, so forgive me if they're not.

However, if any of you folk live in San Antonio, TX: I'll be doing a signing  for my new novel, SHADOW WATCHER, tomorrow (Monday, the 23rd) at 7 pm at the Remember the Alibi Mystery Bookstore.

Please stop by and say "Hello".

I'll also be doing a signing next Saturday (28) at the Borders Books on Lamar St. in Austin, TX, at 2 pm.

Enof of commercial.

This kind of commercial plug is welcomed.  We want to know. :)

Definitely let me know if you are ever in Ashland.  Penny did a lovely book reading here & had a fantastic interview on our local public radio station.

Wow, I'm glad Ginny is being taken care of---that sounds scary! Sounds like a very nice hospital. If you have to go to one, at least it has wi-fi!

TOD:

Well, since there was an unwritten rule in our house that we watched shows that involved relatives LASSIE was always watched by my parents. (No, Lassie himself/herself was not a relation.)

What did I watch? BK got me interested in TV wrestling and I was an avid watcher of that for a while. I loved Tricky Ricky Starr. I'm sure I had other favorites, but none come to mind.
