Whew! Just finished reading all the posts. AOL was giving me the same stupid trouble a little while ago as last night. I fixed it myself. But two days in a row does not bode well.

Tomorrow I begin writing my new project in earnest (an Oscar Wilde reference!). Have had lots of meetings - now I actually start writing. Scary.

Still trying to get my cell phone working properly. It worked perfectly at first, then something got changed and in resetting the settings I think they nuked my in phone e-mail address, which is preventing me from e-mailing photos from the phone. Ah, technology. I'm on the phone with ATT now.

I have some reservations about the Animal Rescue Site. For one thing, it's a one of several subsidiaries of CharityUSA.com, which in turn is owned by a well-known spamming operation. While CharityUSA.com does donate a percentage of its profits to a number of worthwhile organizations, the remainder of the funds stays in its own pockets. This is a for-profit site and the profits help fund spam.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket here, but I don't like the idea that this site goes out of its way to appear to be entirely altruistic when in fact it ain't.

That actually may help her. If she wins this year, she will be one of only a few women to have won four Tony Awards, and she's so young that she will probably win a few more...watch out for her.

And isn't four the record...for an acting category? I know Tommy Tune has won nine in several different categories and Hal Prince has won a gazillion. Does anyone know (or know where to find) these stats?

I think the Emmy Awaqrd must be the only major award that hasn't changed size or design in its history. The Oscar got a taller but somewhat narrower base in 1946. The Grammy also got a bigger base. And the Tony started out as compacts for women and money clips or lighters for men. After the first two years, they had a medallion designed and it was presented in a box, not mounted on a base. The mounted Tonys were introduced with the awards for the 1967-68 season.

Well, the donations are legit. They do seem to give an amazing amount of money to the organizations listed. But I just don't like the idea that they are not at all upfront about their business. And the spam thing is another deterrent for me. I donno. Maybe the "clicks" aren't totally a bad thing, but I think I would rather just write a check directly to one of the animal care funds that are listed on website.

I am the proud owner of an ACTRA Award (Association of Canadian Television & Radio Artists) which, I believe, no longer exists -- the award, that is. It's my favorite of any award I've ever seen - a somewhat overweight naked lady -- rumored to have been modelled after the late Canadian actress, Barbara Hamilton, who was a great lady of great size. The hefty naked lady seems to be running or leaping, a smile on her face, her hair flying, her arms joyfully waving on either side of her. I have no memory of winning it -- I went into shock when my name was announced -- but somewhere I have a photo of me waving the naked lady above my head.

Well, Panni, at least there's some plausible theory as to why your award is shaped the way it is.
I'm one of a few hundred people who wrote the Columbia Varsity Show, and, this year, being Columbia's 250th, they decided to create an award to be given to a V-Show vet who's gone on to an impressive career in the arts. The award is named for one such person, the late screenwriter I.A.L. Diamond, who collaborated with Billy Wilder on many of his best films.
The first recipient of the Diamond award is Terrence McNally, and I attended a reception in which he was handed the statue. He was taken aback. The award appears to be an African-American woman wearing a plain cocktail dress. From her feet rises a pen, rather phallically.
(I guess you should know that before my collaborator, Alexa Junge, no woman had written a Varsity Show, Columbia being an all-male school until 20 years ago.)
McNally looked the award up and down and said "I've never seen anything like this. Except the dress: I've one just like it in my closet."
Later, I met Izzy Diamond's daughter, who confirmed (to my profound disappointment) that her father looked nothing like that statuesque woman.
