THE MOLE isn't on tonight (lots of BACHLORETTE stuff tonight), so I'll be watching more JAKE AND THE FATMAN and trying to finish the set. I have 8 more episodes.

And the word of the day is: GUSTATORY!
Augustus the GUSTATORY Roman did not care for cast iron cookware - he thought the food made in it would make his TOGA RUSTY.

I'll post an updated list once I've double-checked what der B has done and caught up.

Good morning, all! I slept late, got tied up with commerce and other anxieties, as well as several wonderful telephone conversations, including one with Steven Suskin, author of the forthcoming book on Broadway orchestrators.

Tiday, I run a few errands, deal with the mess of my life, and write more critical notes.

DR singdaw, I was surprised to catch the new avatar, but it's nice to have a real face to put in the bridal record.

My friend, composer-conductor Joshua Rosenblum, who conducted MISS SAIGON and wrote FERMAT'S LAST TANGO with his wife Joanne Lessner, who's on the DVD of A TALE OF CINDERELLA.

Many people don't realize that I was the model for Grant Wood's "American Gothic"

On the left or the right?

 ;D

(Time was, back when der B and I met, I could have modeled for the pitchfork.  I've gained a few pounds since then.)

I'm very frustrated with certain members of my family right now.   There was a party that was a surprise party for my dad's birthday, only I was told it was just a solstice party.  Since I'm busy and it requires spending the night, paying a cat sitter etc, I didn't go.   I found out over the weekend that the other guests received handwritten invitations to a surprise party for my dad.  So, I wasn't at my dad's birthday party.

I was surprised after the party that I received emails from some other people who were there telling me I was missed etc.  Saying I'm upset is really putting it mildly.   It's the last straw for me and I was able to tell my brother that this morning.

He said it was a last minute thing....Right, and that's why everyone else got hand written invitations in advance and I got an email 2 days before.

I really don't need this kind of aggravation right now.
Your brother sounds like he'd get along great with my sister.   :P

Isn't Jerry Rivers the real name of Geraldo Rivera?
Technically, no.  His real name is Gerald Rivera.  His mother is Jewish, his father Puerto Rican.  It's his father's side of the family that dubbed him Geraldo, and when his television reporting career started, the station manager wanted the more ethnic sound, so the name stuck.

From what I can tell, it was his former father-in-law, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., who started the urban legend about the name change.  Sounds like something Vonnegut would do, just to be spiteful.

However, since the name is part of urban legend, I'm including it on the list.

(If Melissa Rivers married Geraldo Rivera, she'd be Melissa Rivers Rivera.   ::))

Re: Today's notes.

Der Brucer and I have been to the Yukon Mining Co.  Heck, I remember the place from before I met der Brucer.  I mean, it has been there that kind of forever.

I notice how our esteemed BK talks about having a meeting there with a couple of other writers, but he doesn't talk about eating there.  Good call, BK.

'Nuff said.
