Is the Jet Blue experience airline business as usual, or would other airlines have made more of an effort for their passengers?
It's all airlines. Alas, a big part of how and why JetBlue is able to offer lower fares, in general, is that they fly out of selected airports, and have a relatively limited number of flights (at least compared to other airlines). So, when a delay or cancellation happens in their daily operations, it really can affect them system-wide.
As for the customer service and compensation for cancelled flights, well,
that seems to be the norm now too for all airlines - especially in these days of cut-back service and rising fuel and ticket costs.
It's just a coincidence that bk and DR JulieC40 were flying on JetBlue this past weekend out of the same airport under the same flying conditions.
*I had another friend who was flying Delta this past weekend. She was supposed to fly out Sunday afternoon too. They tried to get her on a flight out later that night - even from LGA or Newark - but nothing was available. She didn't fly out until Monday afternoon. And with the new "requirements" for offering hotel rooms and/or meals for the inconvenience, well... She didn't qualify for anything.
