Ginny - I looked out the window when I was over Ohio, but didn't see you, so I guess I'll have to wave in NYC on the 28th.

The Times review for Skip's short musical seemed to think it felt like a "demo" for a longer show rather than 100% self-contained, but happily that very same day there was a very excellent review in the New York Post (which for some reason has seemed to have more influence than the Times in ticket sales for the other series, so that's a nice consolation.)

From Tuesday's Post:

"TERRENCE McNally is the ringer in "Summer Shorts 2: Series B," a second evening of one-act plays. His "Plaisir D'Amour," starring Tony nominees Stephanie D'Abruzzo ("Avenue Q") and Jonathan C. Kaplan ("Falsettos"), is the undisputed highlight of an uneven program.

This chamber musical begins with a couple's awkward meeting at a lieder recital - he likes her breasts, she's attracted by his ears - and proceeds from there to infidelities and disillusionment.

Alternately raucous and rueful, the beautifully acted piece (with a lovely score by Skip Kennon) comes to a gently heartwarming conclusion."

The curtainup.com review doesn't necessarily mean anything tangible for Skip's show's ticket sales as far as anything can be shown, but the critic seemed to zero in on  the more emotional underpinnings of the show and recognized the work of their wonderful director:

From curtainup.com:

"The only real variant in the play collection is Terrence McNally and Skip Kennon’s musical Plaisir D‘Amour. This bittersweet piece centers on Sam (Jonathan C. Kaplan) and Ruth (Stephanie D’Abruzzo), who fall head-over-heels in love at a Carnegie Hall lieder recital and get married. Thirty years pass as the story takes a scathingly realistic look at their marriage and family life. We see the wild aspirations of youth slowly give way to the practicalities of middle-age. To be sure, this work isn’t McNally at his wittiest, or most creative but as directed by Elizabeth Lucas, the musical (with the classic French song "Plaisir D’Amour"”peppered into certain scenes) proves to be pertinent to our own lives, and soars with the sublime acting of its two principals."

Where are all the funny movies?

We need more quotes!

We had a black sign with white letters out at the street for a few years.  Last week, it disappeared.  It said "Readings"...."Suite 4".

Today my sister said one of our regular customers came in and said, "Your sign is down the street."

My brother in law went down the street and there was our sign....it still said:  "Readings" but "Suite 4" was gone.  He went inside and asked the man where he got the sign, the girl said some man gave it to her mother - Mike said he was going to call the police.....but they said OH NO PLEASE DON'T.....he took the sign, came back to the store, and called the police.

I am sure it is the most interesting thing a Greenwood Officer will do today.

DR JRand57 - if the WOW readers were worth their salt, wouldn't they "know" where the sign had gotten too?   ;)

Back from a very nice breakfast.  Dish was dished, and food was eaten.  I was a very good boy and did not have papa's eggs.  Instead, I had two poached eggs on an English muffin, and some fruit - that was just right and I don't feel at all logey or full.  So, I'll be able to eat something tonight other than a salad if I'm in the mood.  I'm told the driver with the CDs is somewhere in transit, hopefully on his way here.  My gal at the pressing plant was checking his whereabouts and will be calling back.
