Actually I didn't make it to the market.   As I was walking to my car I discovered that the furniture store that I thought was closed long ago was having their absolutely final closeout blowout sale. (or something like that)  So I wandered over and found a great carpet remnant 12 ' x 9'3" that will be a great area rug when I finish my room downstairs.  It was a whopping $15!

I also found a giraffe that's about 3 feet tall, it's sitting down.  Why I need this I don't know, but it was something like 93% off and I fell in love with it.

You should have seen the look on the guy's face who was helping me load the car when I told him that 12 foot roll of carpet was going in a Prius.  LOL!!  Why he didn't believe me I don't know, but with only a little sticking out the hatch back it fit in.  I was able to get it down the basement with the help of my litte hand truck, so I am good to go.

I'm trying to find a good recipe for a dip (one that does not need to be heated) to make for my niece's birthday party.  I'm tired of the ones i've already done (7 layer, spinach, artichoke).

Usually i make these dips to go with chips. But i think this one will be for little carrots.

I"m also trying to find a good dessert.I really wanted to make the olive garden cookie dough cheesecake. But it takes 4+ boxes of cream cheese, which would make it quite expensive here!

I've got over fifty quarts of home-canned tomatoes. . . . .

Do you make dill pickles too?

I've been addicted to sour cream with chunky salsa mixed in lately. It would be more for chips but man is it easy. Bottle of favorite salsa, sour cream. Mix.

Cillaliz, thank you for taking me one more step away from stupidity.  Two weeks ago I bought a bottle of Tostita Brand Creamy Salsa Dip.  I loved it, but I was wishing it would be on sale, so I could take it to work someday.  The idea of combing sour cream with salsa never occurred to me!   :P

OREGON ZOO WANTS HELP IN NAMING BABY ELEPHANT

Quote
"Babar" is already taken. So is "Dumbo." But keep brainstorming.

Momma elephant Rose-Tu's baby boy was born Aug. 23 but the little Asian elephant still doesn't have a name — and the Oregon Zoo in Portland is asking for your help in choosing one.

The public is asked to vote online at www.oregonzoo.org for the favorite finalists, as whittled down by the zoo's staff, The Oregonian reported.

I suggest we nominate MBarnum as the official HHW elephant namer and have him find a suitable candidate name - then we all vote!

DR Der Brucer, I see on weather.com that the storm is about to hit Delaware, nd for all I know you're already in the midst of it. Is everything looking okay for your community?

So far ok - it's gusty and rainy but nothing spectacular.
Thanks for asking.

I just finished watching HOW THE WEST WAS WON.

The train robbery scene is still terrific, even though, on the small screen, you're not engulfed in it.

What's most impressive is that the stunts and epic moments are accomplished without the help of CGI.

This new 3-disc set also has an excellent feature-length documentary on the 3rd disc about the history of Cinerama and the making of HTWWW.

The rain has begun here, but I can't tell how bad it is outside because I don't see anyone on the street.

Always happy to assist.  This way you can use a little or a lot of the salsa and make a little or a lot of dip.  Then you still have salsa and sour cream for other things.  Pretty slick, no?

It's already narrowed down to 5 names
http://www.oregonzoo.org/Voter/vote_form.cfm

Quote
Amul: Hindi for "priceless, of inestimable worth."
 Bao: Chinese for "precious treasure."
Duc: (rhymes with hook or look): Vietnamese for "good, moral, desire." (Also is a portion of former Trail Blazer Kevin Duckworth's name, honoring the late basketball player.)
Hugo-Tu: This name honors the baby's mother, Rose-Tu, and maternal grandfather, Hugo. Hugo comes from the Germanic word for "mind, heart or spirit" and Tu is Vietnamese for "tree."
Samudra (nickname Sam): Hindi for "lord of the ocean." (The calf loves his baths!)

The girls have sniffed. I left them alone with the giraffe and came back to the office where I returned a call to the guy I am going to barter with.  He'll seal the basement wall and hang drywall and I'll do the work on his Naturalization petition.  He'll become a citizen and I'll get the room in the basement finished!

I'll post photos later

Get a good quality bottle of Ranch Dressing, put it in a bowl and garnish with chopped chives (or green onion tops) - perfect dip for veggies.

I wish that rule applied to people walking down the sidewalks in New York City and on the subway. ;)

Good Afternoon!

Well, instead of heading right to the Festival of India right after I was done this morning, I joined my friend, Lisa, for lunch at Mert's. Meet's serves Southern and soul food, and I usually end up having at least one meal there whenever I've come down here for SETCs.

I finally tried their pulled pork BBQ today - which was basically the only thing on their menu I hadn't tried before. It was good, not great, and my sides of okra, collard greens and Charleston red rice were good as always.  -The BBQ was served in a small bowl, not on a bun. However, the corn bread was friggin' fantastic today. The mini-loaves had just come out of the oven, and they had a great crunchy crust and an almost cake-like interior. The corn bread truly made the meal.

Do you make dill pickles too?

Not anymore.
We used to do tomato juice, applesauce, pick-a-lillie, sweet pickle relish, dill pickles, as well as freezing fresh vegetables. . .
These days, it's down to tomatoes and beets.

Then it was off to the Festival of India.

They had set up all the food booths outside on the plaza, and the exhibits and performances took place in the theater. I didn't partake of any of the food, but since they'll be set up tomorrow, I'll probably just grab a dosa and a falooda during my lunch break.

At first I didn't think it was well attended, but then once I stepped into the theater to watch some of dance demonstrations, I realized that that was everyone was. I was able to catch the last half hour of the afternoon program. The dancing and the costumes were lots of fun to watch, but what was most impressive was that almost of the dancers were teenagers, young women and young men! Some of the dancers even had their own cheering sections in the audience.

I walked around for a little bit before heading back to my hotel room, but I'm sure I'll make a return visit tomorrow.
