Back from the Humanitas Awards. First of all, Ann, let's hope you're worrying for nothing. I'm sure you are. TCB, call home!
Now for the Awards. What fun! It was the 30th anniversary of Humanitas, so they had pictures of all the past winners. I got to see myself twice -- once 11 years ago, then two years ago. I actually prefer myself two years ago. They had slides going all through lunch, before the awards began. I was sitting with my back to the screen. Suddenly everyone at my table said - there you are! I turned and there was my name covering the entire front of the room behind the head table. (It was a reprint of a congratulatory ad that Wm Morris placed in Variety years ago.) Flattering as it was, I turned so red, I thought I'd explode.
Sitting at my table was the great cinematographer, Haskell Wexler (Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf; Thomas Crown Affair; One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, etc.) and his wife (ex-wife?) actress, Rita Taggart. They were charming. Also, Roma Maffia, the feisty nurse/assitant from Nip/Tuck, a fun lady, and other interesting folks.
The awards and introductions were excellent -- one of the few places you'll see Gene Reynolds and Allan Burns doing stand-up. Same for Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz
There was a wonderful film that was done for the 30th Anniversary, with scenes from winning productions. At the end, all the names of winners ran horizontally across the screen. One of the few times I will share billing with Hume Cronyn and bk's fave, Kenneth Lonergan.

It was a grand afternoon and I've come home inspired.
