Re: the grammar thing. Woody, I could slow down and re-read, as you suggested last night, but then posting here would become like work.
My business is crafting words. I spend all day meticulously bumping one word against another and figuring out the complexities of phrase and sentence construction. When I post here or elsewhere, then I'm spewing this stuff out in a stream-of-conscious style and I'm not stopping for the finer points of grammar, spelling, or even typos. Occasionally, I re-read stuff and catch a mistake or I'll go back to a post and notice an error and will modify the post. But as long as the post is vaguely coherent (no strange nonsensical substitions like "hint" for "heat"...it's stuff like that makes me think I'm dsylexic) and gets the idea across, I'm not going to sweat the small stuff and will hope twenty years of developing a writing style will pretty much take care of itself and express my thoughts adequately.
I could sit here for hours and agonize over the 'mot juste' and the preciseness of my phrasing, but I have a life...and, nice though it may be, I can't dawdle here all day.
BK, I agree absolutely about Li'l Abner's book. It has never been more timely. It doesn't even need to be played as a period piece, really. The satire, as you say, is still fresh and applicable to today. I think it's ripe for a revival.
