Eleanor Bron was in my HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, playing Mrs. Barrymore.  We loved her so much we gave her a speech that had actually been for Barrymore, played by Edward Judd.

Eleanor Bron - splendid actress.

Johnny Carson did the greatest takes.

I am afraid I am going to have to be a wussburger tonight.  I am right in the middle of reading this really good mystery, and I want to see what is going to happen.

Feel better soon, DCD Ann.

Good night, everyone!

Well, let us all know how you like the mystery.

I'm watching the fairly dreadful Return to Peyton Place.

I am pondering a snack.  In order to actually HAVE said snack would require me to get in my motor car and go somewhere.  Perhaps I'll just do that now, oh, yes, perhaps I'll just do that now.

I watched WOMEN IN LOVE a few months ago and was bowled over by it much more so than when I saw it the first time or two. It now is extremely affecting to me. I've always worshipped Glenda Jackson, but I agree that Alan Bates is also fantastic, and I think it's Oliver Reed's best performance.

NUMBERS was pretty entertaining, but I don't see how they can reuse the concept on a weekly basis without it becoming terribly repetitive. But, like MEDIUM, the writers of these shows obviously have a lot more creativity than I do. I'll certainly watch another episode to more fully gauge how it's going to work.

Francois, I believed BK only objected to the word, "interesting" in the context which it was used.  Saying that a restaurant is filled with "interesting" diners when one, not knowing the other diners, couldn't possibly really know whether they were interesting or not.  They may be the dullest folk on earth.  Now they might be, say "interesting-looking".

Perhaps I'm mistaken, DR Pogue, as English is my second language, but when I said that it was an interesting crowd, (and NEVER did I say that the "restaurant was filled with interesting diners") I do believe that anyone reading the statement wouldn't assume I meant each and every person in the restaurant was fascinating. The word "looking" is implied.

Bravo to Dear Reader Ron Pulliam on his domestic accomplishments today.

My mattress life-prolonging routine:

On each of the solstices (or the next proximate housecleaning day), I flip my mattress.  On each of the equinoxes (or the next proximate housecleaning day), I turn my mattress.  It's a variation on a procedure standard at most hotels.

I took The Dear Mother to a big-hat luncheon today, after which we went to a presentation of Mr. W.A. Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro at the Orange County Peforming Arts Center.  Meal and performance were both quite enjoyable.

Well I guess I will never know who said it first, since I don't know how to do a search - but One For Mahler!  And credit to the first person to say it!  Maybe I should say Stephen Sondheim, but something tells me it was actually MR BK.

My memory is short, but again....sorry to offend....

I went out and got some popcorn as my snack.  I microwaved it, buttered it, and have eaten each and every last kernal that was edible.

If anyone was watching Dateline, did you notice who was playing the piano for Bette Midler?

You didn't offend, jrand.  Like others, my tongue was firmly in cheek.  Yes, first Mr. Sondheim, and then, if memory serves, I started doing it as a runner here at haineshisway.com.  I feel it is important to remember that many of our posts here at haineshisway.com have tongues firmly in cheeks - I don't think it should always be necessary to put smilies.  We leave that to other sites.

And speaking of short memories - these days I'm lucky if I can remember what I thought of in the den by the time I get to the kitchen ten seconds later.  Sometimes I stand in the middle of the floor - oh, a Stephen Sondheim reference - and just scratch my head with no idea what I came into the kitchen for.

Well, I know who was playing the piano - does anyone else?

I'll say:

SPOILER ALERT

A piano player named Marc Shaiman.

The Marriage of Figaro as dinner theater...interesting concept!
