Well, you've read the notes, you've done the Spit Take whilst reading the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the Danny Thomas Cows come home.  To it, I say.

While I can access the site via AOL, let me amend that by saying that AOL is acting completely retarded vis a vis haineshisway.com.

Good Morning!

I'm ba-ack...

I got up to my bedroom, and all I can hear is the wind howling and blowing... and the roof and walls of the house responding accordingly.  It really is gusty out there, and I can even see some snowdrifts forming out in the back yard.  It's gonna be quite interesting in the morning.

At least the lawn service that services my parents pseudo-subdivision, also does snow removal. They did a rather thorough job of removing the snow earlier.  They even had two men with shovels clearing away the areas in front of the driveways and sewer drains that were blocked by the snow being pushed to the side by the snowplow.  Now that's service!

As for AOL being retarded... Like, duh!!

;)

I always views web pages outside of AOL.  Mainly so that I can take advantage of viewing pages in full-screen on my laptop screen.  Love that F11 Key!

And even though I've never had any major issues with AOL - knock maple/pine/teak/mahogany/etc. - I still remember those reports back when AOL started about AOL keeping track of the sites you visit in some semi-secret history file.  And since AOL's embedded IE browser does keep a history trail of it's own...

Me, paranoid?

;)

But, again, AOL has been good to me, and it's come in handy when travelling both here in the States and abroad - well, at least in Australia.

OH... And AOL's rate under it's "Bring Your Own Access" plan is pretty reasonable.

And speaking of spit takes... If I had had water in my mouth, I would have done one a couple of minutes ago when I "lightly dropped" my laptop on the stairs.  YIKES!!

Thankfully, all is well.  In fact, I think I even fixed my cooling fan in the process!

I use AOL for one reason and one reason only - it's inexpensive (under the plan the Haitian cited), and because it would just be too compicated to change the e-mail addresses I use.  I may do it someday, but I just don't have the patience for it right now.  I must say, Safari seems to work very well.

Okay, AOL is now giving me the error message all the time.  I'm also getting the same error message when I try to access our host's website, so there may be some glitch happening.  I've alerted them.  I'm still having no prob via Safari, so it's definitely something AOL-related, although I'm not having any problems accessing any other sites via AOL.  As I said, seems like some kind of glitch going on.

OH!  Before I forget again - and before I go to bed...

A Topic:

If you could have been born in a different country, in a different culture, speaking a different language, which one and why?

I'm still a Francophile, and would have loved to grow up on the outskirts of Paris.  And I just "j'adore" the French language.  However, I will say, as I'm getting older, I do wonder what it would have been like to have been born and to grow up in the Philippines.  "It" really is still so foreign to me, much more than it should be.  I was there when I was six-years old, and that's been it.  And, strangely enough, now that I think about it, my parents have never really talked to any of us (the four boys) about their childhood in the Islands.  That should be remedied sooner rather than later too.

...OK.. Enough musing for now before my mind starts really musing...

Once again... Goodnight.

Could be a glitch with Adelphia's "socket" for AOL.  Comcast has issues like that too - even when dealing with other clients like Yahoo and MSN.

Could be... Who knows?

-I don't.

Wasn't I going to bed?

Spritzzzz!  My spit take for the night.

We were BK's neck of the woods most of the night with The Ellisons and Mark and Dave, two amusing and bright TV critics.  We started out at 6:00 at a little Thai restaurant on that little off-shoot of Ventura right before Laurel Blvd  (Laurel Terrace?), then we went across the street to Du-Par's for pie and coffee.  We kept Harlan way up past his bedtime, rolling out of Du-par's near 11:00.  We laughed and laughed and when we thought we could not wring one more chuckle out, we laughed some more.

Bright, witty, intelligent repartee and conversation.  We were a mini-Algonquin Roundtable.  Stories, anecdotes, jokes, and barbs abounded.  Harlan also gave me a wonderful array of CDs...Stan Getz, Duke Ellington, Charlie Barnett, Jimmy Dorsey, and a Porgy and Bess with Mel Torme,Frances Fay, Johnny Hartman, & Bob Dorough and a few other goodies.  A swell time was had by all.

And as you were doing that, I was listening to his commentary track on the new Twilight Zone DVD (the 1985 version) - it was pretty hilarious - he spares no one, in the same way we did on the Nudie commentaries.

In fact, I wonder if anyone has played the commentary for poor Gil Cates (credited as Alan Smithee on that particular episode).

I may have to go to Du-Par's at some point tomorrow to have their deilciously delicious Cream of Chicken Soup.

Harlan spares no one.  In our wide-ranging conversation tonight, the original Twilight Zone came up and Harlan said all the great episodes were written by guys like Mathieson and Charlie Beaumont and some others, "Rod's were the worst scripts in the bunch and then he said a phrase that, God forgive me, I can't remember; but it summed up that Serling serious intensity and while he said it, he assumed this posture of false profoundity that had us all on the floor.

It was a great night and everyone had their moments and  got in their shots.  Both critics were escaping a Warners Brothers do tonight and they told some great stories about stars and executives.

The interesting crowd at Du-par's was at our table. I couldn't say about anyone else.  Didn't really care.  The folks I was with were more than engaging.  I didn't need to look over their shoulder to see who's else was coming into the room.

I'm about to watch the final episode (first series) of "Carnivale". A rewarding few weeks viewing.  the show was shown here without commercials in nearly 2 hour episodes.  Was it shown that way in the USA. Wonderful cinematography and interesting people - quality time for me.
