As for getting pictures developed from a disc at Costco...

It's usually best to let the machine default to 4x6 and then decided which pictures you want to resize from there.  You never really get the "whole" picture even when you print from standard film.  Basically whatever part of the negative or disc image fills the 4x6 space or 3-1/2x5 space will be printed.

If you are doing them yourself at one of those kiosks, then you need to use the Framing option and not the Resizing option.  At least that's what it sounds like to me.

I'm not sure, I will probably just give in the disk for them to do (same price). If i do that, do i need to tell them anything?

Will they just "frame" it?  What I really don't want is for a pic that is 6x4.5 to be resized to 4X6 because it will come out all distorted (like it did when i tried to resize it to 4X6).

Obviously they know what they are doing there.  I just want to make sure.

Oh and of course there is the possibility that i might do them or some myself. And i was curious how to do it (although they could probably help me).

Thanks very much.

For "fun", you could upload them to a site like Ofoto or SnapFish, and see how the images look in preview - since you can preview them in different sizes.

This might be a stupid question.  But what do you mean "preview" them?

Is that the same as resizing?  Or is it what it what you called "framing"?

Listening to The Suberraneans.  I do love Andre Previn, and I can pretty much tell you that there will be a Previn song on the new Haines album.

My favorite of Grant's own albums is his latest.  I heard it a few weeks ago and it's really great.  All originals by him.  He's just shopping it around, but if he doesn't get a deal on it, I told him I'd put it out - that will get me off my butt cheeks in terms of this little label I have sitting here like so much fish.

It is 3:30 pm and only 1/2 hour to go before my 3 day weekend! Woohoo!

I am taking Friday off so that I can drive down to South Beach (Oregon Coast, just north of Newport) for a fun weekend with George U.

Although we had dated off and on a few years back the distance (we live 2 hours away from each other) was a problem, but we have reunited and things are getting much more serious and we have decided that the distance really shouldn't matter that much. We will see what happens. Anyway, he loves old B-movies and vintage TV shows so I am quite sure this is meant to be! LOL!

PS: I have yet to introduce him to Bollywood movies...didn't think I should spring that on him so early in the relationship! LOL!

I believe I'm finished writing for the day.  I wrote about seven pages, although only about one page of the "new" section I'm in.  All the other pages were additions to two other sections, which I'm now pretty happy with.  I may fumfer with them some more, but I can now move on and complete this new section.

Had a lovely swim.  I'm tuckered out.  I'm hoping Mr. Nick Redman gets here soon so we'll have time to eat before the Cinerama documentary showing this evening at seven.

It's quite a long program tonight, with a Q&A, so I'm not sure I'll be back in time to get the notes up right at midnight.  That will, of course, be the goal.

No.

See post #109 for details of what I did have, if interested.

Oh DR RON - I don't skip posts, but sometimes as I post one or two slip by....happens sometimes when I am posting and the page changes.

I will turn back....turn back...oh time in your flight.

Good news from MBARNUM - there may be one LESS single HHW'er in the future, I see.

"The Bush administration has blocked the public release of the full, classified version of the report for more than five months."

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/10/politics/10terror.html?th

I have one question..WHY would the Bush Admisnistration want to block this report? Can ANYONE think of a legitimate reason? (Other than the obvious, so he would win the election)

I finally got around to asking der Brucer about this, figuring that since he's worked with the government he might have an answer.  And he did.

Many of the SOURCES of information included in the report would be at risk if the full report were to be disclosed.  Revealing the sources would put not only their information-gathering abilities in jeopardy, but in some cases would put the very lives of the people involved in jeopardy.

This blocking of the public release is not just common to the Bush administration, but to every administration within our lifetimes.

You're right about that S. Woody. Keeping the public in the dark is no recent phenomenon.  One of the best things to happen in the last twenty years or so is the enforcement of the Freedom of Information Act, which has allowed us a peek at some of the documents our govt. did not want us to see. Even with the FOIA, it is a battle to retrieve the documents and they are often heavily redacted, but the courts have been pretty strong in siding with FOIA requests.

Thanks for the congrats, Rodzinski and JRand. Took me long enough, but it's nice to no longer be a newbie.

Rodzinski-Somehow I missed your epic song satire-perhaps a secret videotape exists?
And I hope your work situation improves-it sounds pretty frustrating at the moment.

Thanks Iris, and Kerry as well, for the kind wishes. You know, I never looked at my job as the end-all be-all of my life. Mainly, I like a pleasant atmosphere that allows me freedom to do other stuff that I enjoy even more. So I've been really lucky as far as that. The new atmosphere will test me. We'll see how I come through!

Rodzinski,
I have had so many awful working environments that I probably wouldn't know what to do with one that was pleasant.  Well, I kind of liked parts of one of my jobs, but never enough.  I'm used to looking elsewhere (like HHW) for pleasure. But I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up, what do I know.

Chita Rivera and Michelle Lee were on WILL & GRACE tonight playing a lesbian couple that had pretended to be siblings for thirty/forty years. Michelle was looking chunkier than I've seen her look in quite a while (middle age spread or is she ill; not criticizing, just observing), but Chita looked in amazing shape.

Before my shows came on tonight, I watched the documentary on the GONE WITH THE WIND DVD set on how they used "Ultra-resolution" on restoring GONE WITH THE WIND. Interesting, but the feature could easily have been twice or three times as long. And I'd love to have seen many many more screen comparisons between old and new and more information on the various GWTW theatrical releases and how each was sold to the public down through the years along with how the advertising got sexier and more vibrant with each successive rerelease.
