From Cillaliz:Danise and I have reserved our rooms at the Comfort Inn from the 3rd to the 8th.

I’m pleased you are enjoying THE KITE RUNNER as much as I did.

I loved The Kite Runner, so well written and it just broke my heart.

Okay - so a little caffeine, and I'm ready to talk about The Play.

I think it's some of Bruce's best work. Nothing like a muse to amuse... It's an old-fashioned comedy, with very no-holds-barred confrontation of real issues - which I feel I can't discuss here, because it would spoil it.

Some very strong writing - the strongest is the lead male character. Bruce read it very well - no surprise. There is a long speech that ends Act I that took my breath away... Some of the most raw and vulnerable writing I've read of his.

Barbara D is funny in the Thelma Ritter part - I said, and I MEAN IT!!! that I would arm-wrestle her for that role! I do think that the role of The Girl has to be cast very carefully - it's a tricky task. The character is so layered, very complicated - if she doesn't come off completely lovable, for all her very odd proclivities, there's an odd feeling about the ending. I think someone like the young Goldie Hawn, the young Meg Ryan could pull it off. Ah! Goldie's daughter!! That could work! And Cindy Williams for The Friend! But she'd have to arm-wrestle me...

I know it was a cold-as-ice reading, but though she is adorable and cute, Tammy didn't really ever quite "get" this character - as I said, it is a very complicated role.

Some time back the TOD was the first gay character you remembered seeing in a movie or tv show.  At the time I really couldn't remember having that moment of realization, but last night it came to me as Rodzinski and I were watching tv.

Mr. Green from the movie Clue- definitely my and my sister's first gay character although depending on the ending he wasn't gay.  I just remember liking his character and thinking that gay men were all shy and soft spoken.  I must have been around 10-12 years old when we started watching the movie give or take a year or two.

I am happy to report that I just received a phone call from the clinical director at the program I interviewed with.  He has asked me to attend the case conference meeting next week as the next stage of the interview process- it will give me the opportunity to get to know the staff and the cases (and vice versa I'm sure).

Possible SPOILER But I think I'm vague enough...

I enjoyed The Kite Runner but the narrator annoyed me!  I found I wanted  to just slap him and shout "Open your eyes Bozo! Why can't you see what you have to do?!"

I don't get it.....

Quote
NEW YORK -- Take a deep breath. David Blaine's latest stunt is spending a week living in an 8-foot acrylic sphere filled with water.

The 33-year-old magician, shirtless and with an oxygen tube in his mouth, slid into his snow globe-like "human aquarium" Monday at Lincoln Center.

In a week, he will remove the device and attempt to hold his breath underwater longer than the record of 8 minutes, 58 seconds.

He also will try to escape from 150 pounds of chains and handcuffs during the breath-holding finale, which will air live in a two-hour ABC special, "David Blaine: Drowned Alive," on May 8 (8 p.m. EDT).

"As a kid, I always was obsessed with Houdini," Blaine explained Monday.

"I don't think about death, but I am prepared for it," he said, adding that his only fear is "the fear of the unknown."

Blaine said he started training in December, with some help from U.S. Navy SEALS. He lost 50 pounds so his body would require less oxygen.

The water in the sphere will be kept at a balanced temperature to help keep his core temperature near 98.6 degrees. His gear includes a diving helmet that allows two-way communication with his support team.

Blaine invites visitors to stop by and wave at him. The water should be nice and clear; he will be fed and, uh, relieve himself by tubes.

His previous feats of endurance include balancing on a small platform for 35 hours, being buried alive in a see-through coffin for a week and surviving inside a massive block of ice for 61 hours. In 2003, he fasted for 44 days in a suspended acrylic box over the Thames River in London.

Have any of our New York DR's wandered by for a gander of this "spectacle"?

Today is my first official day of not having school.  Classes have been every tuesday for the past year but not today!  Instead I'm at work, but soon I'll be taking myself out to lunch to celebrate and then tonight I'm seeing Rodzinski's show.

No, and I don't think I will be.  When I think about how much time and effort is being expended toward this, it just makes me think of how it could be better spent toward people in need.

I agree.  And I think these "endurance tests" for no good reason are stupid (maybe that's just the mother in me talking....! :D) and certainly don't qualify as "magic"!  Now if he had gotton people to pledge money for every hour he spent in there and then donated all that money to some worthy cause  I would look more kindly upon this endeavor.

This is so great, coming on here and having these birthday wishes.

Job vibes to TPUNk, and thanks for the birthday wishes, too.  Send continued broken legs to Rodzinski as well.

Thanks also to MBarnum, and also to my possible twin RonP (at least according to my now-expired passport photo  :) )
