Good morning!

After three days of rain (not a tribute to the Julia Roberts play currently selling out), we have a gorgeous day today. It's going to get hot, and I may finally have to turn on the A/C, but I've had a good run without it, and I can't complain. Mid-June before turning on A/C is very unusual in the South.

I'd love to revisit THE MALTESE FALCON today, but I already have so much lined up, so it may have to wait until Friday or Saturday.

There's a new episode of WINDFALL tonight that I will watch. I liked the pilot just enough last week to continue watching.

For fans of THE CLOSER, if you didn't see the ratings from Monday night, you will be interested to know that the show broke the all-time record for a basic cable scripted progream - 8.3 million viewers. This is more than a lot of network TV shows get.

Thursday morning greetings!  My day started at a sparkling breakfast event where the Miami Valley Association of Volunteer Administrators presented the 2006 Outstanding Volunteer Administrator of the Year Award.  The recepient was very pleased and surprised and burst into tears when she saw that we'd arranged for her husband to be there.

Nice story Ginny. I still remember in high school when I was inducted (with a gym full of other students) into the National Honor Society. My parents knew but it was a daytime thing and it seemed like they would not be attending. Little did I know that they had been asked to attend and they arranged it without my knowledge. My father took off work and I was very surprised and pleased to look into the bleachers and see my family sitting there.

I'm up, I'm up.  Already a pretty day.  I guess if I'm to jog this morning it will have to be by nine-fifteen, as I have to be to LACC by eleven.

BK knows just how much feeling I have for VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, thanks in part to our mutual arguments with a certain Joe Caps. . .

This is intriguing...can you link me to one of those arguments?

BK and I have also wrangled with Joe Caps over this film title...at FilmScoreMonthly Messageboard....

My eyes simply do not want to remain open this morning.

And that's odd...yes, odd...because I was abed by 10 p.m., and I arose at 7 p.m.  That's sleep aplenty.

Anon...

Abed...

Aplenty...

I had an interesting day at work yesterday.  To begin with, I was asked to stay an extra couple of hours.  Someone called in to say she wasn't coming in to work, and the bosses needed to fill in her shift.  Good for the bosses that I'm easy.

But the good news was that, because I had an extra couple of hours I got to help a customer who really needed help.  She was in her mid-twenties, and distraught.  It was her first time using a WIC check, a government assistance for families to make sure that the mother and children are fed properly.  This particular young mother was feeling ashamed about having to rely on any kind of welfare, but had been hit with hard times.  Fortunately, I've become fairly good at working with WIC checks over the past year, and I believe that WIC is one of the best programs around, as it is very specific as to what foods are to be bought.  So I did a little hand-holding, reminding her that she was using the check to help her children, that sort of thing.  She left feeling a little more encouraged, I hope.

The next lady in line thanked me for being so nice.  It was good to have what I did be noticed, but I would have done it anyways.

And now it's time to dash off to work again.

What a great story, and I'm glad that you were able to help her feel better about her circumstances.  You are now an honorary social worker!

WIC is a great program for new mothers and their children and it's unfotunate that people would feel bad about using it.  After all, we all make use of public assistance programs all the time, mostly without even knowing it.  It's too bad that certain ones have a stigma attached.

I just used my Hello Kitty toaster for the first time, and now there is a slight odor of burnt plastic.  But the toast tasted fine.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts on Gypsy.  Auditions aren't until September so I still have plenty of time to mull things over.

Which one of the strippers were you going to audition for?

Dressy Tessie Tura, Miss Mazeppa or Eledtra?

I've learned today that "Spiderman" has OUTED himself in his latest comic, called "Civil War."

It's a move that is considered unprecedented in the annals of superhero comics.

Yes...Peter Parker actually removes his mask and reveals his identity to the public (although I still believe he's not letting us know EVERYthing).

I just visited Meowmix House, but there's only one cat on camera and it's just sleeping.  Where is the drama?

Back from a really difficult jog, but I stuck it out and completed it, even though I was ready to collapse halfway through.  I do think I'll be getting new running shoes this very day.

If you do go out this afternoon to buy new shoes, be sure to take your old ones with you.  -Especially if you're going to buy your shoes from a running store - or at least a good store with a good, knowledgeable staff.  The wear patterns on the soles of your old shoes should help you find your next pair.

Does it make a little Hello Kitty face on the toast?
