And for "Project Runway"...

One of my roommates is actually doing some work for the P/R firm that's handling "Project Runway".  Whenever he goes to the office, he's always been tempted to take a peek at the list of the "auf'd" contestants.  Thankfully, he prefers to be surprised each week as we all watch the episodes together.

Now that we have a working scanner, and I watched Skip use it a couple of times, I may have to venture forth with some scanning efforts.

Jose, do keep us posted re November.  PennyO's trying to get funding for us to do the show after the first of the year here in LA and other places - November might be a good time for a real pro read-through at a theater for a couple of performances.

Will do.

I'm actually just thinking of coming out for a week or two of vacation, and as it turns out, some friends and relatives are all having birthdays, anniversaries, etc. around the same time.  Plus, I'm just due for another trip back West.  If I can work some work into my itinerary, that may not be such a bad thing.  It will keep me off the Strip.

Wow! A delicious dinner and a very full night of movies/video.

At dinner, I had the dish the restaurant (Tryon House) is known for - fried squash. Superb. I was SUCH a pig!

Well, if I can manage to get on an early train back to NYC that day, I may be able to make the gathering too.  We'll see.  It will all depend how the rehearsal schedule lines up.

We got back and watched PETER PAN. First, this 1960 color videotaping looks pretty miserable on HDTVs of today. Low resolution (though they did expand the sound to stereo on the DVD). The show is very old fashioned but still with charm and wonderful tunes. Peter certainly gets the lion's share of them!

I don't think watching it dissuaded Frank from wanting to audition. I hate to see him get rejected for a part he's so obviously not right for, but let the chips fall where they may. The auditions are in two weeks.

vixmom, in response to your other question:  The presentation for Last Starfighter at the Village Theatre in the "Seattle area" (Issaquah) is on Friday evening,  August 4th.  And there's also a panel discussion on Saturday afternoon, August 5th, on the possibly volatile subject (because some poeple out there just don't like the trend) of MOVIES TO MUSICALS.  BTW, that panel is scheduled to include the original screenwriter of the LAST STARFIGHTER film, Jonathan Betuel.

We were joined near the end of the show by best friend John (who's done several shows with Frank). After PETER PAN, Frank went home, but John and I watched RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. I hadn't seen it in a very long time, and I was astonished at the beauty of this transfer. The picture is as gorgeous as a newly minted film. Couldn't be better. The sound doesn't match the picture, of course, as they've tried to add additional surrounds to the mix. It's OK for a movie more than 20 years old, but its sound can't compare to modern action films. However, the sound is nothing to be ashamed of; it just doesn't quite match the splendor of the visuals.

Do I take it that this will not be your first encounter with Mr. Betuel?

We ended the eveing with the film version of VICTOR/VICTORIA, another movie I hadn't seen in a long time. Grand getting to see these treasures after such a long time away from them.

I recorded GREY'S ANATOMY and CSI for viewing tomorrow. I'll have my usual Friday errands to run, but otherwise should have a lot more time to watch things tomorrow.

TCB - Jonathan Betuel came to see the musical twice at the Storm Theatre; the second time, he came with the director of the original film, Nick Castle.  Both of them also came to the closing night party, and we took it as a very positive sign that both of them stayed until the very end of the party.

Well, that's a relief.  When you said possibly volatile I was worried.

How scary!  I was channel surfing and I found out, THAT 70'S SHOW is still on television.  It is kind of sad.  Half the cast is gone and the rest of them keep carrying on as if they were the original stars, rather than the second bananas.

Oh no, I meant that the subject of movies to musicals was "possibly volatile."  I'll go back and edit my post above to make that clear.  There are lots of people who seem to find the trend of movie screenplays being made into musicals a not so good trend, to say the least.

I know that a lot of people at this site enjoy it, but I just don't find any humor in MY NAME IS EARL.  Jason Lee is a nice looking young man, but I still don't find him funny on this show.

Well, its final season was the one just concluded. It won't be back in the fall except in syndicated reruns.

I like MY NAME IS EARL very much. Randy is by far my favorite character in the show.
