I just read on Playbill.com that Andrew Lloyd Webber to Receive Kennedy Center Honors:

Joining Lloyd Webber for the 29th Annual Kennedy Center Honors are conductor Zubin Mehta, country singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson and film director Steven Spielberg. The 2006 Honorees will be saluted in a gala performance at the Kennedy Center's Opera House Dec. 3. President and Mrs. Bush will receive the Honorees at the White House prior to the performance. The evening — which will be filmed for TV broadcast — will air on CBS-TV in December.

Zubin Mehta.
Dolly Parton.
Smokey Robinson.
Steven Spielberg.
Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Reminds me of a Sesame Street ditty (with words and music by Joe Raposo and Jon Stone)...

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Enjoyed a bunch of WILL & GRACE episodes today, and even though I think the show had its peak years in seasons 1-4, I have to say there are some really fine episodes in this season 5 set.

One episode that really makes me furious and is indicative of the selfishness of the character of Grace was the Christmas episode with Grace and Leo having tickets to THE NUTCRACKER and Leo constantly being called away by the hospital, and Grace always calling on Will to be a seat filler for her. Will twice interrupts a fun Christmas with Jack and Karen to be by Grace's side only to be dumped by her when Leo is able to return. There are some good laughs in the episode, but Grace's thoughtlessness and narcicism are so prominent that the episode is ruined for me.

Next came FOR THE FIRST TIME, Mario Lanza's last film before his early death. It contains lots of music (and the title song is lovely), but is otherwise a typical fluff musical of the period with conflicts that are overly contrived and solutions too easily attained.

Lanza was very heavy at the time of filming, but he's always photographed with a full blowsy jacket, an overcoat thrown over his shoulder to cut his figure in half, or in stage costumes that are more like ponchos than regular clothes.

Everyone having a siesta, or what?  I am on my way to LACC for the casting meeting.  If decisions aren't made, this could go into tomorrow, as well.

THE LATEST FAD:

Quote
DALLAS (AP) — Wondering what they'll fry next for the State Fair of Texas? Start imagining fried pralines and fried Coca-Cola.

Judges today for the second annual Big Tex Choice Awards Contest chose Shirley London's Fried Praline Perfection as the tastiest fried delicacy. Abel Gonzales Junior's Fried Coke took the creativity award.

The two won out among 26 entries such as fried macaroni and cheese and a deep-fried cosmopolitan.

London says she came up with the fried pralines idea after buying pralines at the fair last year. She plans to sell the pralines alongside fried marshmallows.

Gonzales says the Fried Coke came about just from thinking aloud. The concoction includes Coca-Cola flavored batter that is deep-fried and with Coke fountain syrup drizzled on it. That's topped with whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry.

Maybe we could do it with Diet Coke for bk, and who knows, someone might even like Cherry Coke.

I wonder what the reasoning was behind using "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" as the theme for THE PUBLIC ENEMY. Seems so incongruous. Or maybe they wanted irony. Still, I think of that movie every time I hear that song.

Howdy, folks!

Cat brought me a breakfast mouse a few minutes ago - Gee, thanks. ...Next time, unbuttered whole wheat toast, kitty...

I think the mouse would go better on a sour dough muffin.

So I am hoping there will be no scratching in the walls tonight, which would mean we still have bats.

Or much, much, worse :-X (see E. A. Poe for some thoughts; or watch "The Haunting")

TOD - Mr BK - what is your favorite "answer" song?

How about this one:

Question me an answer bright and clear.

I will answer with a question clear and bright.

Even though your answer may be wrong my question will be right.

Question me an answer.

Answer with a question.

(Chorus)

Fourteen hundred ninety two. (1492)

(Bobby)

What's the year that Babe Ruth hit his sixtieth home run?

(Chorus)

Wellington at Waterloo.

(Bobby)

Who became the hero at the battle of Bull Run?

Learning can be lots of fun.

Question me an answer bright and clear.

I will answer with a question clear and bright.

Even though your answer may be wrong my question will be right.

Question me an answer.

Answer with a question.

(Chorus)

Midnight ride of Paul Revere.

(Bobby)

What's the way that Yankee Doodle really went to town?

(Chorus)

Cleaning up the atmosphere.

(Bobby)

What's the reason London Bridge is always falling down.

(All)

You can learn things from a clown.

Question me an answer bright and clear.

I will answer with a question clear and bright.

Even though your answer may be wrong my question will be right.

Question me an answer.

Answer with a question.

(Bobby)

On the good ship Lollopop.

(Chorus)

How did Christopher Columbus sail upon the sea?

(Bobby)

Underneath the circus top.

(Chorus)

Where did Cleopatra get to meet Mark Antony?

(All)

They say knowledge makes you free.

(Orchestra Interlude and Dance)

(All)

They say knowledge makes you free.

Question me an answer if you please.

I will answer with a question if I can.

(Bobby)

Let me show you just how I became an educated man.

Question me an answer.

(Chorus)

Answer with a question.

(Orchestra and Dance)

If you wanna' know, if you wanna' hear, if you wanna' see,

question me an answer.

Back from the casting session, which took a surprising turn at the end.  First off, in addition to Mr. Kevin Spirtas, I'm bringing back Lauren Rubin to play his wife - she played it in the reading and was faboo - she's from NY and has done a few shows there.  But, I'm also going to bring in someone to do the role of the female alien - a terrific part with a really good number.  I'm making a wish list now and it's get some pretty wonderful people on it.

A bit like our first experience in Michigan.

I hope you have also seen MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE, the original and classier film.
