DR MBarnum, re: a question you asked yesterday about TAR.

You asked why I am not crazy about the father/daughter team even though they did well.

There was just something about the father that rubbed me the wrong way.

I didn't actually see them do anything too genius.

They did seem fairly fit (moreso the daughter).  And she was okay (but not a personality that really grabbed me).

Maybe my opinion will change when i see them more.

If I may ask, did you see the intro about them?  She's gay and when she came out to her father, he was very upset.  He doesn't understand. Part of what they are doing is trying to mend their relationship and bond again.  What I liked was seeing how proud she was of him when he made it to the top of the walll after he had such difficulty climbing the rope and how he is clearly starting to see her and respect her for who she is.   I'm a sucker for those types of stories

One of my favorite candy names:

ZAGNUT -- a candy bar popular in the United States that was originally launched in 1930. It was acquired by The Hershey Company in 1996. Its main ingredients are peanut butter and toasted coconut, and weighs 1.75 ounces (50 g). Also, very uncommon for a candy bar, it contains no chocolate.

Appearances in pop culture:

-- In the movie Beetlejuice, starring Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin among many others, the ghoul Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) uses a ZAGNUT candy bar to lure a housefly to its death. Betelgeuse promptly devours the fly.
-- Zagnut bars also appear in the movies Seems Like Old Times and The Great Outdoors.
-- Snake uses a Zagnut to rob the Kwik-E-Mart in a The Simpsons comic book.
-- In 48 Hours, Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) angrily purchases a candy bar from the precinct candy machine for Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy), who has been whining for dinner. Says Cates: "Here's your Goddamn dinner!" It is, of course, a Zagnut.

It's etymology (Zagnut) is a mystery to me.

Could there ever have been a Zignut?  D'ya think?

Wow---I feel like I've stumbled into a wonderful alternative universe!

I have to submit my favorite weird candy bar names, which were made by Toms and consumed at the bowling alley when I was a child: "Full Dinner" which was bascially like a Butterfinger, (and where did *that* name come from?) and "Chicken Dinner Jr." which was one I was always afraid to try.

I'm new to this forum thing but will try to paste a picture of Chicken Dinner into this email.

Hello to all!

She is very much an "in the house" pet, and only goes outside to do any unseemly business.

She also enjoys hiking.

I have decided to take the afternoon off.  I had a smoking relapse not long ago....ok the month of August... and part of September...anyway I have quit again and am going through brain fog.  It happens for a few days while the body gets used to not having nicotine. Nicotine is great for short term memory. Anyway, I've done the bare necessities today and am not getting anything else done, so I'm going to use a little vacation time and go shopping.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be inspired and can write the two briefs I need to do this week.

That's great Cill! I am planning on quitting October 8th, the day after we get back. I'm smoking way too much and throwing money and health down the drain. I think I am going to try the gum when I quit.

Thank you for the welcome, Laura!

Joshie looks a bit like my little cow-cat, Elmo. Not to be confused with Elmore, to whom I also send birthday wishes on this auspicious day.

Good Morning!  Good Afternoon!

Ah, sleep!  :)

-I was a little worried when I got in last night and still saw some of the road blocked off for the filming, but it appears that they're not shooting today.  Well, at least not now.  And, more importantly, they weren't shooting at 2:00am like they were last night.  Well, the night before last night.    or something like that.

DR Cillaliz and jhvw - Just remember, smoking is not allowed inside buildings here in NYC.  -And that includes restaurants and bars and gay bars.  ;)

DR JFL, just my opinion, but I really do feel that the label "obsessive-compulsive" is thrown around far too much and too casually. I often hear people use it when really someone just did a find job. There are many fields of endeavor when attention to detail makes all the difference. To me, it's all about excellence, a higher standard. I didn't hear the remark, of course, but "conscientious" sounds good to me. I'll get off my soapbox now.

OH!  And catching up from a query from a couple of weeks back...

DR Ginny - I have an iPod shuffle.  It was a gift from my brother, Don.  I like it a lot, and it's been the perfect place to store my tunes for the drives between NYC and DC and vice versa.  Alas, I do have to say that it has whetted my appetite for one of the more full-fledges models... And since the new ones were introduced last week... Hmm.. ;)
