I shuddered through NIGHT OF THE DEMON and THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (Hammer version in garish color) and could not sleep for nights after I saw them as a little boy.

As a teenager, I well remember seeing a rerelease of PSYCHO (I didn't see it on initial release), and I shot straight up out of my chair when the second murder happened. I was so shocked and scared I wasn't even aware I had left my seat until many seconds later.

THE EXORCIST sickened me more than it scared me (it was such an ugly picture both in language and in graphics), and frankly, when the bed was flopping around with Linda Blair on it early on, I was laughing rather than feeling scared.

Much as I adore Audrey Hepburn, I could never sit through THEY ALL LAUGHED again. It was deadly dull (a Henry Higgins reference) the first time through, and that's that. I wouldn't mind seeing BLOODLINE again with dear Audrey's life in peril, but I passed on THEY ALL LAUGHED when I saw it come up for sale.

I have nothing left over from last night's prime time line-up to watch. I still have KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE on the DVR which I suppose I'll get to this afternoon, and I'll continue with another CSI: NY from the boxed set today, too. That should fill out my afternoon.

And, surprise-surprise, I cleaned the living room this morning in anticipation of trick-or-treaters tonight. I was afraid I wouldn't hear the doorbell with the vacuum cleaner roaring.

As an adult, the movie that scared the most was probably ALIEN. But I really don't enjoy most scary movies made today. The older ones still have the power to grip me and not let go.

As a kid two films scared me so much that I would have to hide behind furniture while watching them....

                                          AND

Or in the case of this film, I could never get past the credits because it scared me so much......

But the movie that scared the living daylights out of me and my buddies when we got together at my house to watch it back in 1977 was the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD!

For 20 years after that movie would give me nightmares! And I still love it!

And the UNIT has a new episode at the same time!

All I can say is

Well, I've set the BR TV for the Unit, the DVR for L&O-CI, and will watch HOUSE.

I must be getting intouch with my "inner-Matt".

TOTD:  this was on tv when I was a kid (maybe 5 or so), not in a theater, but I remember being at our neighbor's house one Saturday afternoon when I Was a Teenage Frankenstein came on and that scene of his hideous face terrified me--I still remember burying my face in the couch and screaming while the neighbor kid (about 16) laughed and kept saying, "It's only a movie."

TomovOz:  sorry I have been so lax--got your message and it was a pleasure having you here (Colin, not so much--JOKE, it's a joke, people).  Can't wait to have an excuse for a region-free DVD player.   ;D

I don't watch THE UNIT, but I have VERONICA MARS on at the same time. Three shows in one time period makes for some fancy DVR juggling. Thankfully, I have a set-up that allows me not to miss anything if there are three shows in competition for the same timeslot. I can even do four if I have to. Thankfully, though, that hasn't happened yet.

Another movie I saw on TV that had me so frightened that I was hiding under a quilt while I watched with one eye peeping out from under it:

Mario Bava's BLACK SABBATH.

Gosh is it Halloween already! It would be fun to go into town to see the children in their costumes, instead I値l be home playing with Sherlock.  I値l wait until he is bigger to take him into large crowds.  It has been years since we have seen trick-or-treaters.

On a completely unrelated subject (well--if you go back a few days, it's semi-related), I am enjoying the OCR of Grey Gardens more than any other show I've listened to in a long, long time.  A lot of it is cut from the same tonal cloth as Follies (IMHO, anyhoo), but it's brilliantly written, sung and recorded.

I put a spell on you
and now you're mine.
You can't stop the things I do.
I ain't lyyyyyin'.

It's been 300 years
right down to the day,
now the witch is back
and there's hell to pay.

I put a spell on you
and now you're miiiiiine!

Hello, Salem! My name's Winifred, what's yours?

I put a spell on you
and now you're gone. (gone gone gone so long!)
My whammy fell on you
and it was strong. (so strong so strong so strong)

Your wretched little lives
have all been cursed,
'cause of all the witches working
I'm the worst!

I put a spell on you
and now you're mine!

[Watch out! Watch out! Watch out! Watch out!]

If you don't believe,
you'd better get superstitious.

Ask my sisters!
"Ooh, she's vicious!"
I put a spell on you....
I put a spell on you.
Sisters!

Ay, ay, aye, aye, say bye-byyyyyyyyyyye! bye bye!

Halloween greetings!  It was oddly warm outside when I went out for the newspapers early this morning.  Trick or treat in our community will just be winding down when I arrive home from work.  DH Richard has a nice basket of treats to hand out to the brave kids who decide it's worth it to climb our steep driveway.

TOD - Yesterday was a time I thought I was going to have to leave the theatre.  The battle scenes in Flags of Our Fathers are pretty graphic and I looked away a lot.

I'm up, I'm up - I've BEEN up since eight, but had to answer lots of e-mails.  It looks nippy out again, but I cannot let that deter me from jogging.

In the meantime, here are some photographs from The Brain photo shoot.   First up, Cason Murphy and Alet Taylor as the aliens.

The movie SEE NO EVIL starring Mia Farrow was one of the scariest movie experiences I'd had.  Nothing to do with goblins or ghouls, but I found it terrifying.
