DR Laura manages to find wonderful things to photograph even on holiday! Thanks for the pics.

I had an interesting assortment of viewing experiences tonight.

I began with HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. Hadn't watched this DVD I bought in years (had been seeing it on TV, I guess), so it was nice getting to see my own copy.

I can see why Warners remastered it into a new edition this year. I have the older issue, of course, and the color timing is off pretty severely.

Next, I put in a TWILIGHT ZONE disc and watched a favorite episode, "The 16 MM Shrine" with Ida Lupino. Always found it a haunting SUNSET BLVD. type story and enjoyed seeing it again after many years.

Next up was SUPERMAN RETURNS.

I have to say I was disappointed. It had no magic. Maybe it would have been more effective if I had seen it in the theater, but I found Parker Posey irritating and felt Superman wasn't very gallant with Lois married now even if he did have a child with her. That entire triangle gave me a very uneasy feeling throughout. I felt very bad for James Marsden's character who was an innocent bystander in all of this.

I haven't read a SUPERMAN/ACTION comic in decades. Is this story based on the current mythology? i.e. Lois is married to someone other than Superman?

The DVD transfer was also problematic for me. I found it drab with a slight softness I wasn't expecting (did director Bryan Singer give it this look to add a dreamy quality to it or is the transfer simply mediocre? The transfer for BATMAN BEGINS was so razor sharp, it was stunning, and I thought this would be its equal. Not on my TV.

And the color looked somewhat off to me, too. It looked blotchy. I watched an episode of BONES on DVD right after, and the sharpness and superb color was so superior to the look of SUPERMAN RETURNS that I almost thought I got a defective disc.

I have to think these were esthetic choices made by the director and studio for such a recent movie to have this look on DVD.

The BONES episode I watched to wrap up my evening of viewing concerned the discovery of two bodies (a young woman and an older man) buried in a garden. The investigation led to illegal innigrants, street gangs, and a U.S. Senator.

Yee and Haw!  I finally finished updating the cookbooks and they are ready to wrap for the family.  It took me 3 1/2 hours just to do a little update in all of them.  I have a few more recipes I got at Thanksgiving, but I'm not adding them to all 12 books. From now on I'll update my own copy and let everyone else add to theirs.  I've been working on this for 3 years. I am so glad to say I am done.

I'm heading off to bed now hopefully to sleep more than the barely 6+ hours I got last night.

Good night!

After thinking long and hard about it, Skip is going ahead with his San Francisco wine trip, mainly since all the hotel costs are already paid for and subject to forfeiture, and the friends who were counting on his being there have been there since Thursday.

So I'll be stuck, I mean entrusted :) , with Toby and Dylan until Thursday night.

Well you can always hang out with us here at HHW

I'm back. The show was great fun. Lots of laughs. If anything went wrong (except maybe that one light problem) I didn't see anything.

Great cast and songs and music and dance number! Our dear reader Merrill was spectacular -- she had a HUGE part that she learned in just a couple of days.

DR MBarnum just dropped me off at my host's after a wonderful evening at "The Bain From Planet X" and a get-together at Genghis Cohen's with our host BK, DRs Adriana Patti, Merrill, Michael S, MBarnum, DearReaderLaura, MusicGuy, Hisaka - who I hope will return to  us - and Adriana's mother, Michael S' friend whose name I forget and Kevin Spirtas.   What a festive day!

It was sad to say goodbye to my wonderful new friends in the cast and band.  I will miss them, and I hope some of them will join HHW and become part of the best site on the internet.

Tomorrow I fly back to NYC, so I could use any and all travel vibes you care to send.   Good night, all!

Now I hope I can get some sleep; sometimes when I am too tired I cannot sleep. It has been a long day.
