Good Morning!

Merry Christmas!

I'm glad I waited to post - I probably would have been locked out of the yesterday's topic - and I probably would have not copied my post before hitting Post.  -Then I'd be spouting profanities like the father in A Christmas Story.

I ended up heading over to a friends house for a small gathering, and we were watching the "24 Hours of A Christmas Story" on TNT too.  What a wonderful movie, and one of the few I do not tire of seeing time and again.  It was a nice gathering, and it was nice being among some friendly vibes on Christmas Eve.

On the way back home, I decided to take the scenic route.  I headed into the city so that I could see the Richmond Skyline all outlined in Christmas Lights - our version of the Grand Illumination.  I then headed down to the James Center where every year they set up this whole display of lighted animals and trees.  So beautiful - I just wish I had my camera with me.  And then I made the drive down Monument Avenue.  Monument Avenue is not only the home to various monuments as the name implies, but it is also lined with some very grand homes.  And these grand homes have some wonderful light and tree displays.  Many have 10-12 foot high trees in their front room - you can see them through the big windows.  Some even have trees on their second floor.  Then there are the decorated trees outside.  My favorite year after year is this one display where the owners have used gold and yellow lights, and the lights are draped in such a way that it looks like the tree is dripping drops of golden fire.  One house even had a bunch of red lights bordering their grand staircase - a very Christmas-y red carpet.  Magical.

-And then I went to 7-11 and got a Big Bite and a donut - I was hungry!

Oh, and I was lucky enough to look up in the sky to see a few fireworks going off (even though they were most likely illegal).  ;)

And now I sit here... still smiling.  Still thankful.

DR Jason - Sounds like you cleaned up this Christmas!  Did you leave enough room in your luggage to take back all your "loot"? ;-)  Continue to enjoy all the good eats - especially the chicken and banana croquettes!

DR MattH - The get-together I went to tonight was very impromptu too.  I was actually chatting with some friends on-line, and someone mentioned that they were having some people over for some food and drink... So...

I've been home for almost two hours now and had a wonderful time at my parents' place with my sister, niece and my sister's boyfriend. ;D  Dinner was aufschnit (sp?), which is basically German cold cuts (my mom is German).  It was very simple, just serve yourself, and quite good.  My sister made a chocolate cake (from a recipe, not a box!) and I made a chocolate glaze to go over it.  I also brought a pecan pie (bought, but very good) and my sister also bought a peach pie.  No one ate the peach pie...yet.  I guess that that'll be saved for dinner tonight!

A lot of presents were opened and I received some nice gifts (no clothes, though--I'm not sad ;)).  My niece gave me a giant Kermit the Frog Pez dispenser.  It's over a foot tall!  When you lift the head it plays the theme to "The Muppet Show."  And it doesn't dispense individual Pez candies, it dispenses entire rolls of Pez candies!  Pretty cool.

My parents bought me tickets to see Sarah Brightman in concert in Seattle!  I have to take my mom...I certainly don't mind...and the tickets came with a parking voucher for free parking.  I also got a lot of money.  That's never not needed! ;D

After the opening of the gifts, all of us except for Mom who went to sleep on the couch (she said that she only had three hours of sleep this morning!), played Phase 10.  That's a fun card game.  Kind of like rummy or gin rummy but with special cards designed for the game, not your regular deck of cards.  You have to make patterns like two sets of three AND a run of three...or nine cards in a row...or seven cards of one color.  It takes a long time to play, especially the more people you play with.  We actually didn't finish the game, but will tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing well!  And it sounds like a great time was had by all at your party, BK!  :D

-While driving back home tonight, looking in wonder at all the colored lights, the trees, the sky (and the fireworks)...  The pics that DR ladodgerjon popped into my head.  What a wonderful time of year to be born!  To be born during such a festive and thankful time of the year.  So much love all around.

Right Now -
"Baby Jack" does not know hate.
He does not know revenge.
He does not know jealousy.
He does not know war.
He does not know malice.
He does not know ignorance.
He does not know indifference.

Let Us Hope -
That "Baby Jack" will never know hate.
That he will never know revenge.
That he will never know jealousy.
That he will never know war.
That he will never know malice.
That he will never know ignorance.
That he will never know indifference.

Let Us Insure -
That "Baby Jack" will never learn hate.
That he will never learn revenge.
That he will never learn jealousy.
That he will never learn war.
That he will never learn malice.
That he will never learn ignorance.
That he will never learn indifference.

Let us Hope that "Baby Jack" will continue to know Love.
That he will learn Love.
And learn how to Love.

And may All of us continue to know Love.
To learn Love.
And how to Love.

And to accept Love.

Peace.

Have yourself a Merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a Merry little Christmas
Make the yuletide *
From now on our troubles will be miles away

Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us will be near to us once more

Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
Hanging a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a Merry little Christmas now

Interesting how the meaning of this word has changed over the years. Can take the song in a totally different direction.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
Take a look in the five-and-ten, glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
Toys in ev'ry store,
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.

A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.

Pine cones and Holly Berries
Popcorn for you, apples for me
Red striped candy, nut cracker handy
Kettle a-bubbleing hot as can be.
snow clouds hang low and threatening
Maybe in won't, praying it may
the brightest fireplace glows in every face
Waiting for Christmas day.

There'll be walk-a-round songs and
talk-a-round songs
Songs of the inn and stable.
There'll be morning time songs and
evening time songs
And grace at every table.
And Jingle bells will jingle all the way all day

Hey, maybe I値l dye my hair
Maybe I値l move somewhere
Maybe I値l get a car
Maybe I値l drive so far
They値l all lose track
Me, I値l bounce right back
Maybe I値l sleep real late
Maybe I値l lose some weight
Maybe I値l clear my junk
Maybe I値l just get drunk on apple wine
Me, I値l be just

Fine and dandy
Lord it痴 like a hard candy christmas
I知 barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won稚 let
Sorrow bring me way down

I値l be fine and dandy
Lord it痴 like a hard candy christmas
I知 barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won稚 let
Sorrow get me way down

Hey, maybe I値l learn to sew
Maybe I値l just lie low
Maybe I値l hit the bars
Maybe I値l count the stars until dawn
Me, I will go on

Maybe I値l settle down
Maybe I値l just leave town
Maybe I値l have some fun
Maybe I値l meet someone
And make him mine
Me, I値l be just

Fine and dandy
Lord it痴 like a hard candy christmas
I知 barely getting throung tomorrow

When I was living and was doing my Broadway show for CJAD I wanted to use this song for the Christmas show, but was not allowed to as it was thought to have sexual references. I explained that it had nothing to do with it. Just that the girls were going to have a sad christmas as they were out of a job and they were all going their seoarate ways.

Haul out the holly;
Put up the tree before my spirit falls again.
Fill up the stocking,
I may be rushing things, but deck the halls again now.
For we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute,
Candles in the window,
Carols at the spinet.
Yes, we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute.
It hasn't snowed a single flurry,
But Santa, dear, we're in a hurry;
So climb down the chimney;
Put up the brightest string of lights I've ever seen.
Slice up the fruitcake;
It's time we hung some tinsel on that evergreen bough.
For I've grown a little leaner,
Grown a little colder,
Grown a little sadder,
Grown a little older,
All:
And I need a little angel
Sitting on my shoulder,
Need a little Christmas now.
Mame:
Haul out the holly;
Well, once I taught you all to live each living day.
All:
Fill up the stocking,
Young Patrick:
But Auntie Man, it's one week from Thanksgiving Day now.
All:
But we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute,
Candles in the window,
Carols at the spinet.
Yes, we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute.
Agnes:
It hasn't snowed a single flurry,
But Santa, dear, we're in a hurry;
Ito:
So climb down the chimney;
Put up the brightest string of lights I've ever seen.
All:
Slice up the fruitcake;
It's time we hung some tinsel on that evergreen bough.
For we need a little music,
Need a little laughter,
Need a little singing
Ringing through the rafter,
And we need a little snappy
"Happy ever after,"
Need a little Christmas now.
Need a little Christmas now.

Just don't try to imagine Lucille Ball singing this song.

Keep Christmas with you
All through the year,
When Christmas is over,
You can keep it near

Think of this Christmas day
When Christmas is far away

Keep Christmas with you
All through the year,
When Christmas is over,
Save some Christmas cheer

These precious moments,
Hold them very dear
And keep Christmas with you
All through the year

Christmas means the spirit of giving
Peace and joy to you,
The goodness of loving,
The gladness of living;
These are Christmas too

So, keep Christmas with you
All through the year,
When Christmas is over,
Save some Christmas cheer

These precious moments,
Hold them very dear
And keep Christmas with you
All through the year

Christmas children peep into Christmas windows
See a world as pretty as a dream
Christmas trees and toys
Christmas hopes and joys
Christmas puddings rich with Christmas cream

Christmas presents shine in the Christmas windows
Christmas presents tied with pretty bows
[Kids:] Wonderin' what's inside, what delights may hide
But till' Christmas morning no one knows
Little boy: Won't it be exciting if it snows

I suppose (I suppose) that children everywhere (everywhere)
Will say a Christmas prayer
Till Santa brings, their Christmas things

Christmas children live in a Christmas daydream
Waiting for the magic to unfold
[Kids:] Wondrous things to eat, every Christmas treat
Which are not the Christmas pot of gold
Hypnotizes children young and old

I suppose (I suppose) that children everywhere (everywhere)
Will say a Christmas prayer
Till Santa brings, their Christmas things

Christmas children hunger for Christmas morning
Christmas days are wonders to behold
[Kids:] Young ones dreams come true
Not so young ones too
We believe that story we've been told
Christmas is for children young and old

Christmas Children
Sing a Christmas Carol (Christmas children live in a Christmas daydream)
Sing a Christmas Carol (Christmas children live in a Christmas daydream)
Sing a Christmas Carol (Christmas children live in a Christmas daydream)
Sing a Christmas Carol

The sun is shining
The grass is green
The orange and palm trees sway.
I've never seen such a day
In Beverly Hills LA.
But it's December the 24th
And I am longing to be up North.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know.
Where the treetops glisten,
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write.
May your days be merry and bright.
And may all your Christmases be white.

Merry Christmas Happy Holidays
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
Merry christmas Happy Holidays

Oh yeah

We've been waiting all year for this night
And the snow is glistening on the trees outside
And all the stockings are hung by the fireside
waiting for Santa to arrive
And all the love will show
'cus everybody knows
It's Christmas time and all the kids will see
The gifts under the tree
It's the best time of year
For the family

CHORUS
It's a wonderful feeling
with the love in the room
from the floor to the ceiling
It's that time of year
Christmas time is here
And with the blessings from above
God sends you his love
And everythings ok
Merry Christmas Happy Holidays
Merry christmas Happy Holidays

Bells are ringing It's time to scream and shout
and everybodys playings
'cus schools out
Celebrating special times we've shared
Happiness 'cus love is in the air
and all the love will show
'cus everybody knows
It's Christmas time and all the kids will see
The gifts under the tree
It's the best time of year
For the family

CHORUS

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

No matter what your holiday
It's a time to celebrate
Put your worries aside
And open up your mind
see the world right by your side

Warbucks
I know the Depression's depressing
Grace
The carols are stilled
The stored aren't filled
Warbucks
And the windows are minus the dressing
Grace
The children don't grin
The Santa's are thin
Grace and Warbucks
And I've heard a terrible rumour
No goodwill no cheer
Warbucks
But we'll get a new deal for Christmas
This year
Annie and Orphans
The snowflakes are frighting of falling
Molly
And oh, what a fix
No peppermint sticks!
Warbucks
And all through the land folks are bawling
Grace
And filled with despair
'Cause cupboards are bare
Warbucks
But Santa's got brand new assistants
There's nothing to fear
They're bringing a new deal deal for Christmas
This year.
Servants
Bong, bong, bong, bong
Bong, bong, bong, bong
Roosevelt
On Farley and Perkins
On Ikes and Wallace
On Monganthau and Cummings.
All
Fill our pockets with dollars
Roosevelt
On Roper and Swanson
Roosevelt and Warbucks
Get along Cordell Hull
Orphans
Get along giddy up
Men
Call your committee up
Women
Build every city up
All
Cheer every kiddy up
Fill every stocking with laughter
We haven't got room for any more gloom
Let's ring every bell from it's rafter
Warbucks
And chime cross the land
Annie
Tomorrow's at hand
Warbucks
Those happy days that we were promised.
Roosevelt
Are finally here
All
We're getting a new deal for Christmas
We're getting a new deal for Christmas
We're getting a new deal for Christmas
We're getting a new deal for Christmas
Christmas
This year

..........and of course there is one in every crowd

I can't think of anything that's dumber
To a grouch, Christmas is a bummer!

Beaming faces everywhere, happiness is in the air
I'm telling you, it isn't fair!
I hate Christmas!

People loaded with good will, giving presents, what a thrill
That slushy nonsense makes me ill
I hate Christmas!

I'd rather have a holiday like normal grouches do
Instead of getting presents, they take presents back from you
Heh heh

Here comes Santa, girls and boys
So, who needs that big red noise!
I'll tell him where to put his toys
I hate Christmas!

(spoken): And if you want the truth, I ain't so crazy about Thanksgiving or Labor Day either!

Christmas carols to be sung, decorations to be hung
Oh, yeah? Well, I stick out my tongue!
I hate Christmas!

Christmas bells play loud and strong
Hurts my ears, all that ding dong
Besides it goes on much too long
I hate Christmas!

I'd rather have a holiday with a lot less joy and flash
With a lot less cheerful smiling, and a lot more dirty trash, yeah!

Christmas Day is almost here
When it's over, then I cheer
I'm glad it's only once a year
I hate Christmas!

A joyous Christmas to everyone.

And I'll extend early New Year's wishes. Gord and I will be spending the day with his family (London, Ont.), and then heading to Bayfield (near Stratford) till probably New Year's Day.

Words can't express the gift that HHW has been.

A wonderful, healthy, and safe holiday week to everyone. See you in 04.

Loved the songs. Loved the party picture.

Thanks BK, for the lovely photo of three very lovely Hainsies/Kimlets!
More! More! More!
Did you have the camera ready when Guy made his appearance? ? ?
Where are the photos of the lovely food? ? ?
MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! ! !
. . .and now, I'm off to listen to WICKED once or twice again; then it's the standing rib roast, baked yams and sugar snap/snow peas for Christmas dinner.
Toss in a couple of BK-produced holiday albums, Barbara Cook, Michael Ball, Julie Andrews, Manhattan Transfer and Elaine Paige music, too. . .
Stir in a serving (on dvd) of SCROOGE. . .

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Santa was good.  Got a nice pair of new shoes and a few odds and ends like a combo clock/am-fm radio/nature sounds contraption, plus a portable ionic breeze personal air purifier (!!!), the 2002 set of state coins (something we started several years ago), and a JFK commemorative coin.  The coins are all vividly colorized (or whatever one would call it).  All that, plus the first-class airline tickets and a few odds and ends I've picked up/out for myself along the way, and Christmas has been good!

I sincerely hope all are well and healthy on this fine day!
