DR Musicguy,

I have been impressing people right and left with the fact that you showed me the Brady Bunch house!

I only wish I had taken some photographic proof of it...as well as that wonderful Frank Lloyd Wright house!

who suggested clearing out temporary internet files.  That took a long time, but  :D solved the problem.

If you're on a Windows machine, claearing out temporary internet files is a few click operation (using the Disk CleanUp Utility)

I have just plugged in and am now using a dandy little Christmas gift from my sister and brother-in-law--a wireless optical mouse for my laptop.  My previous mouse was also an optical one, but the cord was incredibly short and, considering that the USB ports are on the left hand side and I'm a righty, it made for rather cumbersome use.  Now I can interface completely untethered.

Ain't technology grand?

I forgot the couple of movies I did actually see in a theater this year - both dreadful - Inside Man and Friends With Money or whatever it was called.

Nag, Nag, Nag! That's three horses)

This will not be the last we hear of this:

FRANKENFOOD?

FDA Set to OK Food From Cloned Animals
Thursday

December 28, 2006

WASHINGTON — The government has decided that food from cloned animals is safe to eat and does not require special labeling.

The Food and Drug Administration planned to brief industry groups in advance of an announcement Thursday morning. The FDA indicated it would approve cloned livestock in a scientific journal article published online earlier this month.
Consumer groups say labels are a must, because surveys have shown people to be uncomfortable with the idea of cloned livestock.

However, FDA concluded that cloned animals are "virtually indistinguishable" from conventional livestock and that no identification is needed to judge their safety for the food supply.

"Meat and milk from clones and their progeny is as safe to eat as corresponding products derived from animals produced using contemporary agricultural practices," FDA scientists Larisa Rudenko and John C. Matheson wrote in the Jan. 1 issue of Theriogenology.

Labels should only be used if the health characteristics of a food are significantly altered by how it is produced, said Barb Glenn of the Biotechnology Industry Organization.

"The bottom line is, we don't want to misinform consumers with some sort of implied message of difference," Glenn said. "There is no difference. These foods are as safe as foods from animals that are raised conventionally."

Speaking of favorite movies of 2006 I just saw THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA.

I loved the book. I love UGLY BETTY.  And i really like Anne Hathaway (and of course Meryl Streep).  So I knew i would like this movie.  And I did.  It's rare when a movie ends and you just wish it would go on longer!

It does differ though from UGLY BETTY in that the lead girl (betty vs andy) is much prettier in the movie (and slimmer).  ANd thusfar betty has not undergone any transformation. I'm wondering if they will ever attempt that.

Also, betty's boss (daniel) is not the mean one. Vanessa Williams' character is the witch!

I think there have been some subtle improvements to America Ferrara's appearance on UGLY BETTY particular in the last episodes before the winter hiatus. Her eyebrows are not so caterpillar-like any more and her wardrobe is a tiny bit more stylish.

Let's see if I HAVE any favorite performances this year - certainly I'll go along with Meryl Streep who was wonderful in what could have been one long cliche of a role.  I very much liked the actor in Little Miss Sunshine, the one who tried to commit suicide - he was really excellent (and didn't whisper).

Charlie was royally p****d off one year when he invested in a longtime friend and tenant's play, which he expected to tank.  The friend/tenant?  Bernie Slade.  The play?  Same Time, Next Year.

This is starting to sound a bit like a certain Zero Mostel/Gene Wilder movie...

Bernard Slade, of course, also created The Partridge Family.  They kept it and all his TV credits out of his bio so it seemed like he hadn't "tainted" himself.

Stephen Carrell, one of my favorites. A very different role for him, but I always like him---he's so versatile!

JMK - Why oh why would anyone want to lose money on an investment?  The tax write-off helps ease the sting of a loss a little, but to prefer a loss to income seems, well, perverse.  :)
