Well, you've read the notes, the notes had rumination galore, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're moominating right now.

People come, people go, like Grand Hotel.  Someone was here (der Brucer), someone left (der Brucer) without so much as a posting.  Skammen, say I, and skammen I say.

Too much fever to sleep. I'm so glad my client moved our job from tomorrow until next week!

I read the list of films selected for the Film Registry and had only heard of less than half of them. I think Blazing Saddles, Fargo and Rocky are all worthy entries!

I don't think I saw a movie at the theatre this year.

Off to work today.

DR JMK - Newman did make HEMINGWAY'S ADVENTURES OF A YOUNG BOY at Fox in '62 - so I think you are correct.

I like THE YOUNG PHILADELPHIANS which I used to get confused with FROM THE TERRACE.

But the band could only count up to three.

Good morning, all!  I am not quite awake yet, and I have only a few things to accomplish today:  I go back to the NYPL for another round of Toyland scrapbooks, and I have to do Christmas gifts for my super and my postman Nick.  We finally got paid this morning, and I can also take care of a bit of banking.

TOD:  I am assuming you meant, BK, film performances?
Meryl Streep: THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
   Edward Norton:  THE ILLUSIONIST

Theatrical:
Julie White:  THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED
   Gavin Lee:  MARY POPPINS

I'd also have to include in my list of best theatrical performances
   Bob Martin:  THE DROWSY CHAPERONE
   Rebecca Luker:  INDIAN BLOOD
   Tom Jones:  THE FANTASTICKS
   Manoel Felciano:  SWEENEY TODD

My worst 2006 theatrical performance:  the over-hyped John Doyle SWEENEY TODD.

Thursday morning greetings!  We had a lovely visit last night with my mother, my aunt, my cousin and his girlfriend.  They arrived at our house bearing lasagna and salads from the Olive Garden and a nice Chilean red wine.

Today's a work day for me, too, DR JRand.  It's payday!

We don't see movies in theaters anymore (nor does anyone bring me flowers).  Unless it's a kiddie thing.  Speaking of which, we wasted about 2 hours yesterday seeing Eragon.  Spectacular creature design and that's about it.  John Malkovich was embarrassingly bad (doing his Chicago patois when everyone else was doing veddy High British), and even Jeremy Irons seemed to want to run screaming from the premises.

FJL, I've posted this before, but I think it was before your arrival here.  My late Uncle Charlie was a rather major investor in lots of Bway plays and musicals.  He liked to shop flops for the tax write-off and his priceless quote to me one year was "You can always count on Steve Sondheim for a good tax write-off."  (This was in the Follies/Pacific Overtures period).  Charlie was royally p****d off one year when he invested in a longtime friend and tenant's play, which he expected to tank.  The friend/tenant?  Bernie Slade.  The play?  Same Time, Next Year.

Good morning!

My gosh but it's beautiful outside! Not a cloud in the sky, and cold right now but promising to get warmer later, maybe close to 60. Nice way to end the year.

I'd agree with Meryl Streep as giving the best performance by an actress this past year that I saw. I suspect Helen Mirren in THE QUEEN would be up there if I had seen it, but that's one that will have to wait for HBO/Showtime/Starz.

I did adore Mirren in ELIZABETH I, but that's TV rather than at the movies.

As for the men, none of the highly touted acting performances from this past year have I seen: DiCaprio in two films, Damon, Forest Whitaker in THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, Peter O'Toole in VENUS. So I can't make a choice.

I did like Hugh Jackman in THE PRESTIGE, and Eddie Murphy is sensational in DREAMGIRLS, but it's a supporting performance.

All reruns on TV again tonight that I have little interest in seeing, so I'll be DVDing it all day today. I'll probably watch INSIDE MAN this afternoon, and I want to see the Blu-ray PHANTOM OF THE OPERA tonight. Again, not a film I'd ordinarily be looking forward to seeing, but reviews have categorically praised the high definition transfer of the film, and as it was sumptuously made, it should look stunning. If there's time, I want to sync up the Blu-ray and standard DVD on the separate players and switch back and forth to really be able to compare the difference. I think the "Masquerade" sequence will best put the two versions to the test.

Good morning dear Esteemed, jogged, lunched, and (almost) written BK --

Hopefully you slept well, and can now spring into the day like a gazelle studying with Peter Allen !

I also don't care for wind at all....... there is something very unsettling about wind that always seems like the lead-in to  a creepy scene in a bad horror movie.  Really strong wind also makes me feel edgy and nervous.... I don't know why.

Far from its natural habitat, a bald eagle, with a fish in its talons, flies over Manhattan.

Fish-Carrying Bald Eagle Passes Over New York's Central Park
Thursday , December 28, 2006

NEW YORK — Pale Male, the famed red-tailed hawk of New York City's Central Park, was perched on the 22nd floor of the swank Beresford apartment building on Wednesday when the national emblem of the United States soared past, carrying a large fish in its talons.
"Pale Male usually sits there sort of relaxed, but he sat up straight when he saw the bald eagle," said Lincoln Karim, the man who made Pale Male and his mate Lola famous with his extensive photographic record of the romantic raptors raising fledglings in their high-rise aerie on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue.

Karim, doing his usual morning routine of photographing Pale Male, had the hawk in his viewfinder when the bird suddenly went to attention.

Inmate's flatulence sparks jail fight
Quote
Associated Press
Dec. 26, 2006 02:50 PM

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. - Brian Bruggeman caused a stink at the Lincoln County Jail earlier this month and will now have to answer for it in court. Another inmate, Jesse Dorris, alleges that Bruggeman's flatulence, passed in close proximity to Dorris, sparked a Dec. 14 fight between the two at the jail.

Now Bruggeman, 38, faces a Jan. 11 preliminary hearing on the state's complaint of assault by a confined person. It's a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Bruggeman is accused of injuring Dorris, his cellmate, when he pushed him into cell bars. Dorris, 26, was not charged.

The two began scuffling, County Attorney Jeff Meyer said Tuesday, because Dorris was fed up with Bruggeman's flatulence.

TOD:

Helen Merrin in THE QUEEN
Meryl Streep in THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA (though I'm deducting points because of that smile of hers in that final sceen--a totally unbelievable moment in an otherwise perfect performance.)

The bad news:  I had to log off quite abruptly after calling in not one, but 2, geniuses to help me figure out why I couldn't use the clip art function in MS Publisher.

...two hours later...

The good news:  After having the program reinstalled (which did not solve the problem), one of the geniuses called a third, who suggested clearing out temporary internet files.  That took a long time, but  :D solved the problem.

Now Publisher works for me the way I knew a year ago it was supposed to, but was told to use a "work around."  This morning, even the WA would not work.

Dontcha love bureaucracy?
