Pogue, I saw a gorgeous book/film tie in today - Robin Hood with a glorious cover art image of Mr. Flynn.  Only fifty bucks (forty with my discount) but I passed.  Also saw some interesting Tarzan stuff.

Had a full evening of viewing. I began with SUPERNATURAL. It was another shape-shifter episode and a very good one with constant tension - very John Carpenter's THE THING in tone and execution. Really liked this one.

From the t-watch shelf, I chose M*A*S*H, the movie version, which has been sitting on my shelf for years. However, once I got to the TV, I saw that on the DVR was DIE! DIE! MY DARLING! with Tallulah Bankhead and Stephanie Powers. Of course, I HAD to watch that first.

Boy, Tallu gave it her all. It's a fairly ludicrous script with more holes in the plot than are in Swiss cheese, but she's so cacklingly good that it doesn't matter.

I hadn't seen this since it first came on the CBS Thursday Night Movie eons ago, but it was kind of nice to see it once more. I've had this on my CHristmas list for the last two years, but no one chose to honor me with it, and now I'm glad they didn't since I suspect its replay value is fairly slight.

Once Tallulah had come to her grisly end, I rewatched the six top ladies final free skate that I had seen this afternoon, but this time I paid a little more attention to all the elements. I really felt Emily Hughes had the best skate overall of the afternoon. I really liked her dynamism. If she had slipped up on a triple flip late in her program, she would have won the competition.

I recorded Friday night's replay of BROTHERS & SISTERS from two weeks ago. This was the episode that first introduced us the Jason Lewis playing Chad, the closested soap opera star who had begun to see Kevin. They had four sequences together during the hour, and I enjoyed rewatching those.

And since I still had PRESENTING LILY MARS in the DVD player (about 20 minutes into it), I watched another half hour of it to finish my evening.

Tomorrow I'll finish LILY MARS, go to the races with Charlie Chan, and watch the men's final skate program which is going on as I type.

I'll get to MASH if there's additional time.

I would like to ask DR Pogue to please extend my sympathies to his friend Larry Drake who had the unfortunate task of appearing in a film thingie (TV or movie gives it too much credit) called "Gryphon" which aired this evening  on the SCIFI Channel. This mess combined amateur hour special effects, sets made of refrigerator boxes painted with fire-sale poster paints and dialog that would have embarassed Ed Wood. How is it possible to package so many really stinkeroo elements in a show that any network dare air?

PS I did not enjoy this movie

Was Seven/Eleven always open 24 hours a day?

NO

See 7-eleven[/b]
Quote
The company's first convenience outlets were known as Tote'm stores since customers "toted" away their purchases, and some even sported genuine Alaskan totem poles in front. In 1946, Tote'm became 7-Eleven to reflect the stores' new, extended hours - 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., seven days a week.

And Motel 6 used to rent rooms for $6.00/night!

Just finished ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK...and now I am going to get the other set of films tomorrow...TWIST AROUND THE CLOCK and DON'T KNOCK THE TWIST...These movies are so much fun and the picture quality is astounding...10 times better then my DVD-r versions!!

And Lynette Bernay was in ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK as well...she pops up in a lot of musicals as she was a dancer by profession, then later an actress.

It would, of course, be nice if the PARENTS had enough sense to PRIME the children before they got to the theater.

AMEN

We still haven't convinced the grandlads that Robin Hood was not a fox! (The Flynn version DVD is ready to go.)

My movie was interrupted by a telephonic call - but I guess I'll try to finish it before writing the notes.  It's quite a bad film - The Mephisto Waltz, but it is amusing on many levels.

Thanks for the infos!

That 7-eleven denomination always puzzled me because, when I lived in Florida in the 80's (1900 that is ;)) all the 7-elevens in my neighborhood were open at all times!

I finally watched The Manchurian Candidate. OH MY!!! I got so involved in this movie that I screamed and cheered at different places in the movie. The acting was wonderful and it was a compelling script and I loved every second.

The Manchurian Candidate is better than The Mephisto Waltz.  Cannonball Run is better than The Mephisto Waltz.
