Is there a spare seat in the clouds for DR Miss Karen or are people still stowing thrones.

I finished THE GANG'S ALL HERE when I went back downstairs. The transfer is too dark for much of the movie thus robbing the color of brilliance.

In the featurette on Busby Berkeley, clips from the film are used that are a lot brighter and more vibrantly saturated than in the film proper. The bananas in "The Lady with the Tutti-Fruiti Hat" are much yellower in the clips than in the film, for example.

BK favorite Dr. Drew Casper also contributes commentary during the film, but I didn't get around to listening to any of it.

But there will be crumpets for tea.

Ok it is afternoon teas time here. As Ben's DP Ant knows "everything stops for tea"

DR Cillaliz, welcome to NY! Glad you like the Edison. The coffee shop is a staple---many recording deals were signed there and it reeks of ambience.

DR Jose is right; I've stayed there many times and in a few instances have run into groups of noisy high school kids. But maybe you'll be OK since it's the middle of the week.

If you go out the south entrance, look to your left and you'll see a staircase that is probably roped off. It goes up to a very old recording studio that, when last I heard, was owned by Lenny Kravitz. I tried sneaking up there once but got busted. :-(

DR Edi, I know what staircase you are talking about and right now it isn't roped off.  I was thinking of going up there tomorrow and if stopped acting like I'm just lost...I'll let you know if I see anything

IDOL tonight:

The singers who blazed forth last week did so again tonight. LaKisha was very smart in singing "Midnight Train to Georgia" with enough voice and sass without trying to overpower it into something more than it is. She can't come out and eat up the audience every week, so I found it a wise move to sing something familiar with her own spin on it but not oversung.

Melinda did a sensational "My Funny Valentine" that was the knockout rendition of the night for me. She is unquestionably my favorite in the competition this year. I called her number about an hour and a quarter after IDOL went off, and it was busy, so that's a great sign for her.

Alaina was weak (she whines when she sings), Leslie's song was a messy effort, Jordin's "Reflection" was up and down in quality, Gina sounded a tad sharp to me, and Haley's "Queen of the NIght" was very ordinary.

If I had to pick two going home, it would be Alaina and Leslie, but Antonella, Jordin, and Haley are also vulnerable

Dear BK and other Dear Readers,

What are your feelings regarding toe socks? What about the practice of wearing socks with sandals? Do you prefer plain all-one-color socks or socks with patterns, stripes, and so on?

And why am I thinking about socks all of a sudden?

I wore toe socks 100 years ago when they first were a novelty. They made the skin between my toes hurt so I stopped wearing them

I watched the quiz show again where the contestant thought the Mexican/US border was longer than the Canada/US border. What these people don't know is truly embarrassing. (She graduated from college with a 3.3 GPR.)
