So... It was a good first day back at rehearsal. And since I was just there last week for the first "meet and greet", it truly was like the first day of rehearsal for me. We started off the day with another "meet and greet" since the rest of the ensemble came in today. It's a great group of Broadway vets and Broadway babies.
After the designer presentations, I retired to the "office" with the assistant conductor, and we went through the show. Whew! Thankfully, since it's a Kander & Ebb show, once a number starts, it basically just goes from there - no major tempo changes to worry about, nothing too tricky. Of course, there are still a lot of notes to keep track of, but I did pretty well playing along while Jim (Laev) conducted. And then after lunch, I played for the blocking rehearsals while Patrick continued with the music in the other room.
*And my familiarity - and love(!) - of the original play really came in handy today too.
