This from another message board:

"Austin Miller is gay. He was responsible for the breakup of collaborators (HAIRSPRAY) and long time couple, Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman."   ::)

Not saying anything except what I've heard.  8)

Here's my question:  So what?

If Wittman and Shaiman LOVED each other, a breakup wouldn't be possible.

The sorry truth is, everyone is fair game in love when the couple aren't a strong pair.

What's scandalous about someone moving on?

And who among us DARES cast stones?  Hmmmm...?????

The theater is RIDDLED with leading ladies seducing their married leading men.

LUMINOUS STARS have done this over and over and over....with nary a scandal.

She went to Hollywood and slept with the screenwriter

No challenge there, they're almost as easy as librettists.

I'm casting stones right now.  There are times I've wanted to stone casts, that much I can tell you.

They didn't cast Stones, they cast Max.

Don't mark my words, but I will be AMAZED if the show opens "with" Max in the role of Danny.

At his best, he has always seemed a bit lacking, IMO.

Austin, at least, could sing and dance light years better than most of the other competitors.

But I guess he just couldn't make the producer laugh enough.

Of course, none of the other males made anyone laugh to my knowledge, either.  But then they weren't challenged to do so.

And we all know what a laugh riot that Danny Zucco is.

Wonder who will be the "stunt Danny" during the dance-off?  Max sure never gave evidence of having the skill.

At this point, how do you suspect David Ian would be rid of him?

Money talks.  If Max doesn't walk the walk, I daresay they'd rather go with an alternative than have the show bomb.

It's possible someone will convince Max to bow out rather than disgrace himself in a Broadway debut.  That is a viable alternative for everyone.

But...Max MAY prove me wrong.  But I will be AMAZED if he does, that's all I am saying.

And I'd be amazed if Austin is cast in another role in this "Grease" production...he'd steal the show every time he would walk on stage.

DerBrucer - There are no bones to be picked about it.  This board has made no secret of wanting career advancement for Cason.  If it means we might have to watch him take his clothes off in order for us to be supportive, that's just the way it is.

Jose, the donuts were my faves - the chocolate donuts from Entenmann.

The chocolate cake ones?  or the Chocolate frosted ones?

So DR JOSE - it's always some young actor.  How come it's never some young lighting technician or some young stage hand.  Those wacky actors just always get the breaks.

Well, that happens too.  And sometimes pit musicians and assistant conductors get into the fray at times.

I'm wondering...since they had the "Dannys" sing "Greased Lightning" on the audition, does anyone think (know?) if they would change the stage show and have him sing it and not Kenickie?  I can just imaging thunderous throngs of the slacker backers yelling "why didn't he sing the song from the TV show"??

I think in the David Ian production - which is being remounted this summer - "Greased Lightning" is sung by Danny.

I think I would like Austin better onstage than I do closeup on television.

AND something I sometimes forget......GREASE starts at a reunion for the class of '59, so we are seeing these things through the eyes of the kids returning to school....so their ages being more than "high school" is not quite so jarring.....

Although I don't like the show much.....  I think I liked it much better before it became a franchise.

Since they seem to be using songs written for the movie, too, there you are.   8)

DR MBARNUM - did you say that Laurie Mitchell was doing a commentary track for the upcoming DVD release of QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE?

I know Yvette Vickers did one for ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN....with Tom Weaver.

I liked Austin as Link in Hairspray.... I just can't see him as a Danny in Grease.

As far as dancing is concerned, the role of Danny has never, in my experience, been cast as a "singer who dances".  More usually as a "singer who moves well".  They will be customizing this show around their new stars, and making them look good.  Heck, some of those Danny's in the Weissler revival didn't even move well.  We'll see what happens.

As for "dance off", it's all about Cha-Cha.

And, finally(?), the show's opening night at the Brooks Atkinson is not scheduled until August 19.  There is plenty of time for training, coaching, rehearsals - and press events - before the show even starts rehearsals.  And, trust me, "Grease Academy" is back in session as of last night.

Well, if they're basing the new "Grease" more on the movie than on the play, I have to say that the movie "Cha-Cha" was second to Travolta's "Danny" in the dancing department...and one would assume they would want to go that way on Broadway.

But....This is sounding more and more like a "Grease" I'd avoid like the plague.

Is that kinda like having Eva Peron sing "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" in the movie?
