Are you sure it isn't a moth?

As a matter of fact, I'm not.

The FlickerAlbum which hosts the picture says it's a big butterfly taken at the Butterfly Gardens. A poster commented that it was, in fact, an Atlas Moth.

Since it does not seem to tap-dance, it probably is not an Alien.

A site about Sungei Buloh Nature Park (a Wetlands Preserve in Singapore) reports:

Quote
Atlas Moth
Attacus atlas

The Atlas Moth has the largest wing surface area of all moths (but not the longest wings, see below).

It is so named because its wing patterns resemble maps. The Atlas Moth's wings have triangular transparent "windows" whose purpose we don't know. The wing tips are hooked and some say resemble a snake's head complete with eye, to scare off predators.

Having been a former balloon pilot in training and often balloon crew member, I would HATE to crew for this monstrosity.  I can't imagine how hard it would be to get it filled and up in the air, not to mention packing it up at the end of the flight

I marvel at a lawyer posting about hot-air :D

Oh dear!   >:(

I had grabbed a handful of extra All About Us programs to distribute to those DRs who wished to have one.

Unfortunately, they were in the pocket behind my driver's seat, and this morning during the drive to drop off D[ear] P[uppy] Cody, he discovered them and [silently] ripped them to shreds.  Which I only discovered once I arrived at my destination.

Sorry!    :-\

When he is "up" for it, he would probably have to use a human-sized doll. (Is that legal?)

Since when was that an issue in "Deliverance" land?

The Internationale from last week, which I didn't get to yet...  :

It will keep! That's the good thing about historical documentaries: they have a long shelf-life!

I'm happy to photocopy the pertinent pages for those DRs who are interested.  There's some very interesting background information on the source play.

Alas, DR JoseSPiano was shortchanged in the credits department.  They list him as "Rehearsal Pianist" but NOT as a member of the orchestra.  They say, since his name already appeared in the program.

Pshaw, as DR Miss Karen might say.

Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me   How is this? I was thinking about getting it.

Mark Shaiman has created some wonderfully clever parodies, and the supporting cast almost outshines the star with their impersonations [including Judy Garland and Joan Rivers].  I highly recommend it for those who appreciate a good insider wink at show business.

I was thinking moth, too, since its wings are open. But what do I know? We don't get those kinds of moths out here, that I know of.

ZADE seems to be the Arab Yanni....his music is all new age (which I didn't realize when I picked up the CD...I thought it was your average pop album)...I can't say I am enjoying it very much.

Oh, I guess you missed my post where I thanked you for recommending it. I love it! I've played "River of Fire" for all who are involved in THE CLOSER. Someday when I have some downtime I'll see if I can cut a little music video for JK from his CLOSER clips!

I can see how our resident weathergirl, DR Cillaliz, would make a great balloon pilot, what with knowing all about thermals and prevailing winds and such!

The Enemy Within:

This from a gay web-site:

Quote
For god's sake, would one of you unmarried boys PLEASE give this man a blowjob so we can finally impeach him!

If the Log Cabin Republicans and the GayPatriots REALLY want to help America by working "from the inside of the GOP", here's a perfect opportunity to put their mouth where their money is.

It would be a win-win situation. A moment of ecstacy for a gay, pro-Bush, Republican and salvation for America.

TOD:

Home CD:  Retrospective compilation of classical pianist Gunnar Johansen
Car CD:  Fame Becomes Me [Martin Short]
DVD:  Along with DR George, Visions of Germany, along with Visions of Ireland.
[the others in this series, for France, England, and Italy, are great also!]
...and...
The Internationale from last week, which I didn't get to yet...  :(

I had forgotten that FAME BECOMES ME came out--I need to pick it up or order it.

When I finally get my widescreen HD television contraption, I will definitely want to pick up a set of those VISIONS OF...  DVDs.  I love watching them on my old-fashion TV.  I'll bet they look stupendous on HD.

Rehoboth Area Weather Alert:

Quote
...A FEW THUNDERSTORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE THIS AFTERNOON... A WARM FRONT EXTENDS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE AND CENTRAL DELAWARE. THE FRONT IS EXPECTED TO SLOWLY LIFT NORTH THIS AFTERNOON AND PUT THE REGION IN A MORE UNSTABLE AIRMASS. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON, BUT AS THE AIRMASS BECOMES MORE UNSTABLE, A FEW OF THE THUNDERSTORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE. ALONG WITH BRIEF PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN, LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS COULD OCCUR WITH THE MORE INTENSE THUNDERSTORMS AND BECAUSE OF THE CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE WARM FRONT AND SHIFTING WINDS, A TORNADO CAN NOT BE RULED OUT EITHER.

Hail! Tornado! This is the Beach for....sake.

Would you Midwesterners please keep your weather to yourselves!

der Brucer

Woody will probably use Thunderstorms/hail/tornado as an excuse to have me pick him up at work!

And if we get thunder, I'll have to put up with a quivering/wimpering 60 lb Lab!
