The Paris metro corridors now have HUGE posters for this winter celebration of the 50th anniversary of WEST SIDE STORY that will play for quite some weeks at the Châtelet Theater!

See; told you you'll all go in a frenzy over this!

Créé au Winter Garden de New York, le 26 septembre 1957, West Side Story célèbrera son 50ème anniversaire sur la scène du Théâtre du Châtelet. West Side Story transpose l'histoire de Roméo et Juliette dans le contexte des guerres de gangs qui sévissaient à New York dans les années 50. Illustrée par la musique et les chansons désormais mythiques de Leonard Bernstein et Stephen Sondheim, l'énergie, l'inventivité et la modernité qui se dégagent de cette comédie musicale flamboyante et violente ont enthousiasmé le public du monde entier. Sa version cinématographique réalisée en 1961 a obtenu dix Oscars dont celui du Meilleur film. Depuis sa création, ce musical référent de la nouvelle génération des comédies musicales, de Bob Fosse à Michel Berger et Luc Plamendon, continue de charmer les spectateurs, génération après génération.
La version qui sera donnée de West Side Story au Théâtre du Châtelet, autorisée par les ayants droit de Leonard Bernstein et Jerome Robbins, sera le fruit du travail conjoint de 36 comédiens, chanteurs et 25 musiciens. Au total ce sont plus de 80 personnes qui participeront à cette nouvelle production «hommage» à l’original.
Le rideau se lèvera le 20 novembre 2007 pour 50 représentations, 1 pour chacune des années de cette oeuvre légendaire.
