DR Danise - how wonderful that you're ending your sorrowful journey to Pittsburgh on such a positive note!  Safe travels this evening - we'll be looking forward to hearing from you when you arrive home.

Hmmmm working the next two days.

After looking at all 12 of my lines, I decided I didn't want to drive 70 miles a day for five weeks doing MIDSUMMER.  There ARE small parts.  I haven't seen the cast list, but I do know that the man she ORIGINALLY offered the part to certainly is a BETTER actor than the part would indicate.

My problem with this director - who is an instructor at the local university - is that she has cast mostly University people in play.  She has set it - in her words - in a indefinite time.  The royals are "University people", the mechanicals are "the locals", and the fairies are "children."  I don't like town and gown competitions to begin with....anyway....I hope she has a good show.

I don't blame you a bit, DR JRand. And with gas prices as they are now, it's prohibitive for me to even consider doing shows that are away from Charlotte. My favorite theater recently has been one that's 26 miles away, but I wouldn't consider auditioning there now.

Very happy for you, DR Danise. Seems like some of those clouds are parting now and sunlight returns. It always does.

And good morning!

Another beautifully sunny day here, but it's going to be in the upper 80s this afternoon, and I'm beginning to wonder how long it will be before I have to fire up the central A/C. I'd really like to avoid that expense as long as possible.

I'm really excited to see REUNION IN FRANCE. It's one of the few Joan Crawford films from the 1940s that I've never seen, and I'll also be interested in seeing how director Jules Dassin handled having an "A" picture at MGM to direct.

Then we all went out to dinner and I met more of the family.  We exchanged phone numbers, addresses and email addresses and will stay in touch from now on.   :)

DR Danise---thank you for reporting in. I know that was probably the toughest day of your life but it sounds like you bore it with grace and strength and even had some happy surprises in the mix!

I'm especially happy to read about you reconnecting with family members. Although you weren't able to stay longer this time, I bet you will be getting together with them in the near future.

THE BLACK SWAN

This made me think of the Grace Kelly movie, THE SWAN, which features a little bitty Van Dyke Parks...so cute!

Danise, you have just proved that old adage "When one door closes, another one opens," not to mention that one about a sliver lining.

RE: UGLY BETTY

some spoilers from season finale

DR FJL i just read your comments about UGLY BETTY.  I agree with some of the things you said. But i disagree about marc.  I love marc.  I think he is hilarious.  Sometimes he is mean. But so is his little friend ( i can't think of her name right now, the receptionist who is his best friend).

What i do agree with you on is that justin (little boy) went overboard with getting the lead in the musical. First of all he is so talented, i seriously doubt the boy who they cast was better.  But i didn't like how flippant he was about giving the other boy nuts.  I believe that the writers tried to make it seem not so bad by saying that justin merely offered to swap and the other boy really wanted to do it.  The other boy should have asked what was in the food (any kid with a nut allergy would not merely eat someone else's food.

But i was not happy that that was how justin got his part. So i get why you didn't like it either.

TOD:

Car CD player: Lots of Lost in Boston/Unsung Musicals, etc. with those wonderful Larry Moore orchestrations. I love the little quotes and musical references thrown in, and all the wonderful harmonies that are interwoven under the melody. Brilliance! It makes me happy!

that one about a sliver lining.

I always go for the sliver lining...

Especially when it's a sliver of cake, pie, or other baked good.

DR Ben - YEAH!  So you did make it to the Bubble Room and The Lighthouse Cafe!

Did you enjoy the "bubble bread" at the Bubble Room?  And did anyone have the Red Velvet Cake for dessert?  *Come the Fourth of July, they make a Red, White and Blue Velvet Cake - they color one of the cake layers Blue.

And, yes, those portions are gigantic.  And I seem to remember the menu offering a "dinner special" where you just have an appetizer and dessert.  Which is still more than enough food.

RE: last night's SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.

I love this show.  But the audition phase is my least favorite.  My favorite part is once the voting starts (the pairs dancing, not so crazy about them dancing alone).  But i also love watching the training (when everyone goes to vegas and they train them). I love this part.

SPOILER FROM LAST NIGHT'S SHOW.

There are a few people i like. But was anybody else annoyed that they let that great breakdancer guy go. They put his friend through (who i did not like).  To me if they wanted to dump the first guy, then they should have showed us that he was completely incapable of learning choreography. Cause without showing that all they did was really annoy me.
