My little French boy sent me a photo of us from 20 years ago, and it was the only thing I had on my computer at work, so I cropped my head in the photo to be the right size and sent it to the paper. It will be small and B&W so maybe nobody will notice how old it is!

Isn't this a cute little French boy?

And I wish I was still this "scrawny"!

Take it from ME: little French boys are ALWAYS cute! There! ;)

For the closing celebration of the Film Festival here in France, a special presentation of 2 Cole Porter's musicals are scheduled:

"Cannes-Cannes" starring Chita RIVIERA!

"High Society" with Lance Armstrong, Bill Cosby and a special appearance by Gene Kelly!

It is HOT here today. Walking to go to lunch, there wasn't a whiff of a breeze, and it was just hot. Not as humid yet as it will be in a month or two, but bad enough.

I was late getting back from lunch, so I only had time for a couple of items on the viewing menu.

I began with the Joan Crawford-John Wayne film REUNION IN FRANCE. Wayne gets second billing, but he's really a supporting player in the film. He looked wonderful, still a young man and not yet with the leathered features he was soon to acquire. He plays a Yank in the RAF (I know, that's another film at a different studio).

Joan is hilarious in this parading around occupied Paris in designer gowns and some of her typically outrageous hats. Yes, there's a marginal reason she wears those outlandish clothes SOME OF THE TIME, but this was definitely an MGM confection, not a documentary on the Resistance.

Interesting character actors all over the place: Reginald Owen, Henry Daniell, Howard Da Silva, Philip Dorn, and Natalie Shafer playing one very selfish bitchy lady.

With outrageous films like this, I can see why MGM decided Joan Crawford's stay at the studio had worn out its welcome.

For all the gardeners on HHW, the reason that the paper is writing something about me is because I write and edit a gardening show for HGTV that is on every Monday morning at 8AM. I have some friends in Marietta who have a garden I love, so I pitched it to HGTV and they said we could do it. The show will air Monday, May 28 at 8 a.m. Eastern and Pacific and 7 Central and 6 Mountain, and I asked the paper if they would print something about it because the gardeners are so well-known in Marietta.

I then opened the Droopy cartoon set. The first film looked rather poor with pale colors, and I was afraid the entire set was going to be washed out.

But I played the film cartoon on the second disc "The Three Little Pups," and the color was astonishing - bright, bold, and fantastic. So, I guess some of the cartoons will be in worse shape than others.

I put the first disc back in the player and will finish those before watching any of the other cartoons on the second disc.

The second disc contains the seven Droopy catroon that were done in Cinemascope, and these have been given anamorphic transfers, so I'll be anxious to get to them eventually.

DR Edi - even though I'm not a gardener, I'll try to get up Monday in time to see your show.  I do like to look at other people's gardens!

Hi all.  I'm at the airport, safe and sound.

The cab driver was a hoot.  He said I think like a woman because I wanted to go early to the airport instead of waiting until the last moment to try and beat traffic to get there.  He said he gets lots of calls from young (er) girls who give him only 15 minutes to try to make it the airport before their flight leaves.  Sometimes he makes it and sometimes it doesn't.

We talked about the kind of fares he picks up and he said if I got bored, I should fly to Pittsburgh and ride around with him some night.  He said it would be more interesting then any movie or play I could go to.  I bet that's true! :)

I'm glad that I have a window seat for the plane.  I just have to be able to see what is going on.  I think I'm at the back of the plane this time.  22A.

Then, back to the den for more evening viewing.
