I just received word that Gil Mead, a longtime supporter of the Arts, especially Theatre, in the DC area and elsewhere has passed. He and his wife, Jaylee, were constant presence at Arena Stage. Not only have they sponsored the annual "big" musical each season for the past couple of years, they also recently gave Arena Stage $35 Million for their new building fund. However, the Meads not only helped out Arena, they have also given their time and money to almost every major and minor theatre in DC.
Gil used to musical direct and conduct shows for various community groups, and the parties at their Watergate condo always ended with a sing-along around the piano. He will be dearly missed. My thoughts are with Jaylee, their children and their many(!) grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
