THE SWIMMING HEAD

Well, you've read the notes, the notes went swimmingly, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're coming home soon, and swimmingly, from what I hear.

I believe the worst adaptation may be the new Hairspray movie from the tralers I have seen, but I will judge when I see it. I think the movie version of Tommy is horrible when compared to the stage version,  but is fun in it's own.

I absolutly adore the new Chicago and the new Phantom of the Opera. I dont care, I like them :)

About 20 minutes ago, I just got home from our tech rehearsal for "Taming of the Shrew," where the call time was 6:00 pm!  We didn't actually start the run until later (I forget exactly when) and we didn't have to go through every single line in each scene, but it still was a long evening.  Otherwise, things went quite well.  The set looks fabulous and I think most people are pretty good. ::) It's been a lot of fun, too.

:)

What also made me get home later than when I could've was that I drove another actor home.  He lives a few miles north of the school where we've been rehearsing (and will perform) and I live a few miles south.  So, I have more driving to do than a direct shot.

I read today that Donna King of THE KING SISTERS passed away at age 88 in Plano, Texas.

Her sister Marilyn King was at the opening night of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X.

TOD:  It is so easy to trip, isn't it, between stage and screen?

Some of the more egregious examples:

Man of La Mancha
A Little Night Music
A Chorus Line
Annie
Mame

And none of these are guilty pleasures!

Hey, Amy! Your fan letter to Beverley was read on Showtime this weekend. I just finished listening to the show.  I try to listen live on Saturday at 5pm but I was busy this weekend so I couldn't listen until just now. It's near the end of the show. She didn't play one of my reviews but she did like your letter.  That's nice!

TOD:

The Apple
Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick
in the "original" movie musical category.

A Chorus Line
Bye Bye Birdie (mostly for Janet Leigh and the mangling of the story) in the Broadway to Hollywood category

I must be tired.  When I read one of Matt's posts last night, I thought he had watched THE HISTORY OF BOYS.  Possibly an interesting movie, but probably more fitting for elmore's VCR.

Good morning, all! Another day in Toyland, hopefully positive answers on a new office space, and perhaps an evening ou/movie with my friend Kirk. Beyond that, I've got some orchestration work from Mr Kevin Spirtas to begin and I've been doing some Brain Surgery for BK.

DR edi, re yesterday's MOULIN ROUGE posting: the musical is a terrible film, much as I love STRICTLY BALLROOM, but I have no idea what you saw since it hasn't played on Broadway.

TOD:
  Man of La Mancha
  Brigadoon
  A Chorus Line
  Pal Joey
  A Funny Thing Happened . . .
  A Little Night Music

I have a problem with a lot of Hollywood musicals, like BABES IN ARMS, in which nearly all of the original score is dumped, and shows like KISS ME, KATE Wherein the lyrics are laundered. I'd like HAIR more - I do admire it - if the final cut had included songs that I know they filmed: "Frank Mills" and "Air" come to mind immediately.

GODSPELL comes to mind as a guilty pleasure: I love the score and I think the show is quite moving and wonderful, but it's hippie-dippie clowns running around New York spouting gospel and Schwartz makes me roll my eyes.

TOD

LOST HORIZON
A CHORUS LINE
MAME
MAN OF LA MANCHA

(what an unoriginal list of fims)

I like PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (the movie).  I didn't think it was nearly as awful as the critics lead led me to believe.

Off to do some Monday things in the rain.

Atlantic City vibes to DR FJL.

When does DR MUSIC GUY get back from Chicago, that toddling town?
