Monday evening greetings!  Another long day at the ALA conference.  I had fundraising sessions 10:30-12 and 1:30-3 and managed to complete the exhibit hall in between.  The second session was Fabulous - wish I could go back and implement it within my library - fat chance.  Had another surprise chat with one of my best grad school friends before going to the awards ceremony to clap for my coworker.  I'm glad I did that, because no one else from our library system bothered to show up  ::)

DH Richard and I took the Metro back here to Crystal City and rested for a bit before walking up the block to Legal Sea Food for a nice dinner - I had the chopped Greek salad and an appetizer portion of fried clams - perfect.

I'm about to turn in for the night, because I have to be at the Foundation Center-Washington by 9am tomorrow.  When that meeting ends at noon, the business portion of this trip will be over and I can shift into vacation mode.

Ginny, your conference doesn't sound near as much fun as Cillaliz's was. Where is the spa treatment???? Where are the fireworks????

That film with Susan Sarandon and Burt Lancaster, screenplay by John Guare, called ATLANTIC CITY!

And most of it was filmed in Montreal. the appartment building where they lived is on Sherbrooke Street west of Guy. My friend lived in the building and for as long as he lived there the door to "Kate Reid's" apartment remained as in was seen in the film. All the other doors remained the same.

I even work on another film that was based on the same source material. While it was being filmed in was called The Neighbor. It was changed because of the John Belushi film neighbors. It was then changed to The Man in 5F (or something like that) After the movie was completed in was seize buy some bank for non payment of a loan. It was eventually released as Killing Them Softly

Have we mentioned another catastrophic transcription of stage musical to the screen:

THE WIZ.

I thought the concept of NYC being Oz was great. The production & costume design by Tony Walton was great,

Diana Ross was a BIG mistake. I even tollerated Michael Jackson. I could have done without the extra music by Quincy Jones, but that wasn't too bad

We'll be doing at least two numbers from Newsies in our fundraiser show, which, in case I haven't mentioned it, is an evening of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz songs.

Will it also include Ashman lyrics to Menken stage music as oppsosed to Disney music?

I also liked Paint Your Wagon which could be considered an original. It is nothing like the stage version except for the score

Since I didn't have time to spend on the Saturday trivia question.......

I was uploading Lost Horizon to my computer and notice a connection to another 60's film musical based on a semi successful stage hit. I would think it would fall into the obscure trivia question category. Lost Horizon has at least two connections to that 60's musical. What are they?

Oh, Matt, are you sure you want to subject yourself to STAIRCASE, especially just before bed?

It's recording now, but I won't watch it until tomorrow. Also BOYS IN THE BAND (which I already have on videotape) and VICTIM.

I began my evening with a MURDER SHE WROTE episode. This is the one where Dale Robertson proposes marriage to Jessica. Also guest starring is David Birney.

I'm in the process of replacing certain favorite albums with CD's. I have the '70's CANDIDE, but do any DR's favor other versions?

All of them.  :)

Next, I watched THE NIGHT LISTENER. Perhaps Maupin's book was exciting or intriguing, but all I could think of while watching Robin Williams rushing around like a person of limited intelligence was HOW STUPID and NAIVE the character was. I got really irritated by some of the bone-headed decisions he made during the film.
