'Unchained Melody' Writer Hy Zaret Dies

der Brucer

Thank you, Der B. UNCHAINED MELODY is one of my all-time favorite songs; I just adore it. But I didn't know much about the writer.

Think I'll head down now and do some reading. I may clean the bedroom areas before I start on lunch preparation, too. All depends on how much I read.

TOD:

Are there any Cole Porter songs I DON'T like??

I guess my very favorite would be BEGIN THE BEGUINE. Just love it.

Did I correctly hear "Jeremiah was a crawdad" last night, or am I just nuts?

That you heard "Jeremiah was a crawdad" is what I'm saying cannot be confirmed nor denied--not that you are nuts, DR Laura.

However, since I am not medically or psychologically trained and because I am not in any close proximity to you, I really and truly cannot confirm nor deny that you are nuts, either.

You should have heard her singing along with Mrs. Miller in the car this morning.

I have yet to crack open my Cult Camp Classics: Sci Fi Thriller set.

Last night I watched the 1950s Columbia film CITY OF FEAR starring Vince Edwards (yowza!) as an escaped con who is carring a container of dangerous radioactive substances, thinking it is heroin,  which could wipe out the population of L.A.

Not a bad movie. My DVR picked up several interesting movies whilst I was away on vacation.

Today I also must return to work...however, not until 1pm  :D

Also today, my mom goes in for surgery today and will likely be in the hospital for a few days. She will reside at my sisters while she recuperates.

Good Morning!  Good Afternoon!

Well, I actually found myself up at 6:30am - ?!?!?! - but then decided to sleep until my alarm went off.  Of course, when it did go off at 7:30, I decided to listen to the radio for a bit... Until around 8:30... And then I made some coffee... Took a shower... And headed to the subway...

I just finished the two hours of ACL rehearsal I was booked for this morning, and then I have a coaching at 1:30, and then the rest of the day is all mine.  I do have all that aforementioned stuff to clear off my desk, but at least I took care of my laundry earlier in the week.  -Now I just need to actually put the fitted sheet on my mattress.  ;)

DR Jason - $315?!?!?!  We have three A/C units in our apartment and a washer and dryer, and we've never had an electric bill anywhere close to that.  Are people turning them off when they leave the apartment for the day?  -Maybe you need to start turning off your computers when you leave too, that would help.  *At least that's what all those ConEd posters say in the subway.

Well, maybe you should check YouTube for the clip.  Although, some PBS affiliates will be repeating the broadcast this week.  Some more than others. :-\

"Well, Did You Evah" from High Society

der Brucer

Actually, "Well Did You Evah" is from DUBARRY WAS A LADY, and the lyrics were revised and cleaned up for HIGH SOCIETY.

The office was in its current new turmoil with no signs of recent violation, thank God.  I did forget, though, that I'm being interviewed at 2 for a new bio of the late and wonderful Vito Russo. So, in another 30 minutes I need to head downtown.

'Morning, all... Well...afternoon.

The $315 bill was for a month and a half. I left a note on the door letting the roommates know that I need payment by tomorrow and that they have to start turning things off when they leave the room - like the lights and TV - and turn everything off when they leave for the day. I doubt that one of them will pay any heed to my instruction.

I remember my first summer in New York, our electric bills were right around $300/mo. I had never used a window unit air conditioner, so I had no idea how much power they used. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle.

I love "Blow, Gabriel, Blow." It's a great song, and it makes the sick side of me giggle because my mind goes to the double entendre of the title. I know...I'm a sicko.
