DR MISS KAREN  the cough is moving lower and I plan to work tomorrow....so we shall see.

I am watching some Edmund O'Brien movies on TCM....that man sure could sweat.

And what's with the Kazoo from Dimitri Tiomkin every time he sees a pretty girl?

DR Jose, what was the name of that film I should see? I can't remember. Senile, I guess.

Enjoyed my time spent with Jessica FLetcher tonight. Thanksfully, she was in both episodes that I watched.

I began with a mystery in Cabot COve with a jealous husband killed after he suspected his wife was leaving him. Among the guest stars were Max Gail and George Furth.

The second episode took place in Jamaica with the death of a plantation owner. John Rhys-Davies, Hurd Hatfield, and Shani Wallis were guest stars.

Next, I started going through the extras on the ACE IN THE HOLE set. There's a running commentary that's a scene-by-scene analysis, my least favorite kind of commentary. Kind of dry, but occasionally the speaker would give some interesting background information on a actor or a comparison to some other work of Wilder's.

There's an almost 1 hour interview conducted by a French film critic (speaking English as does Wilder) that touches on some of his films but definitely not all. I was surprised that KISS ME STUPID was singled out for discussion. Also FEDORA and his Sherlock Holmes film were mentioned.

There was another interview with Wilder conducted at the American Film Institute with moderator George Stevens, Jr. but with Q&A with film students. It did contain some information not contained in the previous documentary.

Jason Graae, and others I have known, truly LIKED it.
I'm familiar with the short story, but I'm not a Stephen King fan by any means.

Hmm... Did they like it?  Or did they "like" it?  I guess there are a few good things about it - and I truly do mean a few(!) - but it just didn't hold our interest.  Nor anyone else's in the theatre.  Of course, there were hardly any other people in the theatre, so...  Maybe you need to see it in a packed house.  And after a couple of cocktails.

There was a 14 minute interview with Kirk Douglas that was excerpted so that only the parts dealing with ACE IN THE HOLE or Billy WIlder specifically was present.

One thing I didn't know: Wilder originally offered Kirk Douglas the leading part in STALAG 17. He didn't do it because he didn't like the play version, and he kicks himself now for not understanding that Wilder would have made something much better on film than the stage version. Always find it fascinating who got offered roles in films that ended up being done by others.

I still have a couple of special features to deal with: an audio interview with one of the co-writers of ACE IN THE HOLE, and a Spike Lee afterword on the film. Not sure why they chose him to offer an appreciation for the movie, but I'll be interested to watch it and hopefully find out.

Depending on how many casinos you visit...could  you do a DR a favor and find out if any of them have video roulette instead of live roulette? I play the video  version only (but NOT via the internet, only in real casinos) and believe you me you can win at video roulette.

The Flamingo had it.

Don't see "1408".  ;)

Well... I just checked out the reviews over at The New York Times, as well as RottenTomatoes.com... Very interesting.  The Times sort of liked it, however, the review was very short(!), and was doled out to one of their third-string reviewers.  -There's nothing wrong with third-string reviewers, but with the Times, sometimes that's all the "advice" you need.  However, even some of the good reviews say it's a bit too long - which it is.  And, yes, the first part of the movie is pretty good - heck, even Len Cariou is in it! ;), but still...  DR Jason and I could not believe we had just spent $11.00 and almost two hours of our day watching something so lackluster.  We even laughed about it.  A lot.  ;)

I'm heading down now to get some sleep. A fairly big day tomorrow: I'm heading to my friend's POOL for the first time this summer, just to get a little color on my skin. Nothing too extreme, but this milkmaid look as got to go!

Good night!

What Jose said.

After the Edison, I went to my theatre and counted out my booth from last night's show. It turned out I had the best night I've had in MONTHS last night. Very exciting stuff. Sadly, tonight was not quite so successful...just regular, even though we were sold out again.

I ran into a friend tonight who hadn't seen me since January (B.W.W. - Before Weight Watchers), and she kinda freaked out. I don't know how much of it was just for show, but she was amazed by my "transformation." That was a nice ego boost. :-)

And I caught a couple of people checking out my calves today as we were walking to the restaurant. That helped, too. :-) Or perhaps they were blinded by the white...

And don't see "1408."

1408 is not released here until October 11th. I hope I remember the warnings and advice.

Only if "Ratatouille" is sold out for the next three showings... Well, on second thought.. Then go see "Transformers" or "Evan Almighty".

(Live and learn.)

Don't see "1408".

I will bet there is a good movie playing at the Regal E!

DR Jason - ACL was sold out tonight too.  In fact, it was oversold somehow, by at least two seats.  They were handing out "reminders" to all the ushers as I was heading out.

-And, apparently, the show is solidly sold for the weekend too.  Hopefully, Q is too.

Oh, that's right!  It's officially called "The Regal E-Walk Stadium 13" - ???

And if there does happen to be a Bollywood rip-off adaptation of "1408", I'm sure the songs will help the hours go by faster.  I hope.

Good question.

I believe they offer them:

-A refund, or...
-Seating in a different part of theatre - probably the box seats that get sold normally (since they're such bad seats view-wise), plus a partial refund, or...
-Tickets for another performance.

Pictures tomorrow DR Jose, I promise. I took the photos to work for all to see...people were quite intrigued by the apartment buildings that Jose and Rodzinski live in.

I forgot to take shots of the buildings that Elmore and FJL live in, however.

It rarely happens, but they generally have house seats or reserved seats for emergencies. If they are truly sold out, then the house manager has to speak with both sets of ticketholders and work out some kind of compromise, which usually means someone gets better seats at a later performance or a refund, which they try to avoid like the plague.

I'm hoping we're sold pretty well this weekend...I'm only about $3,000 shy of making commission this week. I'd love to make a good $1,500 more than that... :)
