(Oh my God,... I just made a baseball reference..... I'm feeling especially macho and butch today ....

That's because I was hugging and kissing on my new bedside photo and luring you to switch teams (Seinfeld reference)  :-*

Just me and Mikey -- where did everyone go?  To church or something?  Even Mikey's quiet -- must be off taking a photo of Bosco.  I'll check back later to see if there are more HHWay photos.  More visuals!!

I had the sweetest dream last night ... DRs MusicGuy and Jose were frollicking atop a giant Baked Alaska as they enacted a nude opera in loin cloths with the giant paws stratigically placed so the businessman with suit case lurking in the background wasn't too aghast while DR Jason, who was looking most aghast, waved his calculator at them and hollered at them to get down from there because their giant Baked Alaska was way over the point total for the day ....

What does it mean DR JRand? ...

LOL Miss K!

Sad news about one of my favorite actors.

Kerwin Mathews, star of films like THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, JACK THE GIANT KILLER, The 3 WORLDS OF GULLIVER and THE GARMENT JUNGLE died in his sleep on July 5th in San Francisco.

He is survived by his partner of 46 years Tom Nicoll and two cats.

I had been in contact with Mr. Mathews a few times over the years. Very nice guy.

Watch out...3 strikes and you're outed!

Well, methinks that DR MusicGuy actually likes the locker room... and/or at least hitting the showers.

Good Afternoon!

Well, I made some progress over the past hour or so.  Bed linens have finally been changed - of course, I washed them over a week ago - and I sorted some papers into various piles, which will be sorted through once again - hopefully, tomorrow.  And since it looks like I'm actually off tomorrow, tomorrow sounds like a good day for sorting.

Well, I think I'm gonna get ready to head in for the matinee.  It's not until 3:00, but I want to check on a few things before I get to the theatre.

Love the discourse re Merrily.

Noel, I think if you read what I wrote again you'll see that for me Sondheim does not entirely escape blame.  I have never liked Good Thing Going, for example, for precisely the reasons you state - it's early 60s and that is NOT what a hit song from a show would sound like.  I understand the levels Mr. Sondheim is going for, and yes, it's interesting to see the song evolve, but even Mr. Sondheim's own "hit" Send In The Clowns, is a "hit" I get musically.

But, I'm afraid, it's Furth who gets the lion's share and please remember I never saw the orginal, so I don't know how I would have felt about that - but in the revival he and Sondheim pretty much did what they wanted to do with no one acting as dramaturge - he basically told me that.  And the book is just not good - a few lines of Furthian dialogue are funny, but it's melodramatic, arch, and finds no way to make us care about anything that happens.

I'm sure plenty of blame can be put on Prince for the original production, from the sound of it.

It's more likely based on the greatest collaborative team after Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bock and Harnick.  After 13 years of writing the most brilliant musicals together (The Apple Tree, Fiorello, Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me, and my recent headache, Tenderloin), they had an ugly fight and didn't talk to each other for decades.  Friends of Sondheim's, too.

I wouldn't be too quick to pin all the blame on Furth.  When one collaborator says to another, what we've done is good enough to produce, they're both responsible for each component.

Anne Kaufman Schneider wasn't blaming Furth; she was criticizing the Kaufman & Hart play which also runs backward.

As to Oscar & Dick, I believe it's not a literal falling out of friends; it's about the two men's mindsets and approaches to life: Rodgers the business man and Oscar the humanitarian. The Franklin Shepard character isn't a songwriter in the Kaufman & Hart play, although there is a character based on George Gershwin.

Hiddy-Ho, DR ELmo -- holding down the joint I see ... It was great to see your darling mug in DR Mikey's slide show yesterday.  Makes me miss you more than I already do. Can't wait to see ya when I'm in The Big Apple for The Brain.  Can't wait!  Did I say I can't wait? I can't!

Maybe this will do the trick:

On the HHWer top 50 posters list, Mr P is currently in 6th place, but DRs Tomovoz and Jane are gaining on him, so he'd better get back here and get back into the game (DR MusicGuy macho baseball player reference) ...

Yes, DR KAREN

The DREAM-O-MATIC 6000 says that from the description of your dream:

You read each and every post at HHW - but you read them so quickly they become in your subconscious ONE LONG POST....

Through packaging packages and there were a weeks' worth to do, including all the Milla preorders - I'm not brimming with confidence they'll show up on time, but we're ever hopeful.
