SF SENTINEL

Quote
A CONVERSATION WITH JIM BROCHU AND STEVE SCHALCHLIN

...
STEVE: But I think also – just on a fundamental level and a political level – Gay people who are raised in a religious environment, a conservative religious environment are basically told, “You’re not good enough / you don’t belong here / you need to change / you need to be something else.” And so, in a lot of our lives, we end up leaving the church and hating God or hating Religion or hating the whole nine yards. But an inherently spiritual person doesn’t really lose the core of their being. So it’s going to come out somewhere. I think that what we discovered is that it comes out of Theatre, because Theatre and Church are essentially the same thing. They are story-telling, they are inspirational, and they are true. Theatre brings an even higher truth sometimes. Church basically repeats the same old story over and over again. I often wonder if that’s not one of the reasons so many Gay people wind up getting into Theatre. We’re always told that the reasons are because we’re used to hiding and wearing masks and being somebody else. But I think there’s something more profound. I think it’s because we have to tell our story and that we have something to contribute to the – and I hate to use the word “spiritual” – but that’s really what it is. It’s something more than just sitting across the table from somebody and talking about what’s going on. So, Theatre really does become a temple and a place of hard core truths, deep emotional truths.

Yes.  And as for the "notion" that gay people wear masks, I'm here to tell you that nowhere are masks more in plenitude than in any church, anywhere!

No, I haven't!

Is is sort of like Macgyver?  Or more practical?  If it's PBS, I'm guessing the latter.  If it were one of the more edgy cable networks...

Don't know from Macgyver. This is the ultimate in practicality. He recycles pantyhose and other common household items to solve problems, like getting stains out. If anyone wants to know how to get ink stains out of clothing, just say so, cuz I use his method all the time and it really works! Still looking for a way to get rid of chocolate stains.  ;)

Oh, yes, I'm assuming that pantyhose are a common household item at DR Singdaw's house.

As to last night's brouhaha over spoilers, thank you, DR Ron Pulliam; I didn't think I revealed anything that constituted such, especially since my post was made during the first commercial break.

Let's call posts like that SEMI-SPOILERS for folks like myself who don't want to read them, letting others like you, Ron & Matt H know it's ok.

If I hadn't already seen the show it would have taken the fun out of experiencing the humor for myself & I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.

And you know how the modern woman darns damaged socks and stockings, don't you?  She holds them over the wastebasket, says "Oh, darn!", and releases.

Edi, DC not throwing up vibes! And good, semi stress free moving vibes!

I wouldn’t worry about Ron, somehow I suspect he has dealt with enough cat throw-up & fur balls in the past that he can handle a wee bit of cat bile conversation at breakfast. ;D

I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the Lord
but you don't really care for music, do you
well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth
the minor fall and the major lift
the baffled king composing hallelujah
