It's swell! Since I saw you last, I've grown a third lung and a couple of new toes because of spores in the carpet... It's pretty hot.

Actually, according to our house manager, the Shuberts were supposed to have done "something" to the carpets yesterday while the theatre was dark. Whether they were ripping it up and replacing it or just shampooing it remains to be seen...

And now I need to prepare myself for my afternoon meeting. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't fly across the table and hurt someone. Or that I don't come back without a job...or monkeycake.

Or maybe just having that maintenance guy go around spraying some Febreze like he was the other night...

Well, worst case scenario, at least you'll have monkeycake.

LA TIMES

Quote
Cat thyroid disease linked to chemicals

An epidemic of thyroid disease among pet cats could be caused by toxic flame retardants that are widely found in household dust and some pet food, government scientists reported Wednesday.

Cats that eat canned food containing whitefish, salmon and other seafood are exposed to PBDE levels up to 12 times higher than cats that eat dry food, and five times more than cats that eat poultry or beef canned foods, the study said. The chemicals build up in oceans and other water bodies and magnify in food chains.

However, much of the exposure -- for cats as well as people -- comes from dust, not food.

Cats, while sleeping, often come in direct and prolonged contact with upholstery, carpeting and mattress materials that contain flame retardants. In addition, they often sit on electronic equipment.

"Because of their meticulous grooming behavior, cats would effectively ingest any volatilized PBDEs or PBDE-laden dust that deposited on their fur during such activities," the scientists wrote.

(An ASSOCIATED PRESS link)

No problem cat-people: just keep your cats off of the rugs, furniture, beds, and electronic equipment!

Good Luck.

You might also try to avoid spontaneous outbursts of sobbing.

Just a thought :)

I'm now off to the luncheon for my friend Margo...I've printed out all of your wonderful vibes and will give them to her.  I told her about them when we were driving back from Young Frankenstein and she was very touched by all your wonderful expressions of support for someone you've all never met. :)

I have a question which I'm hoping some DR can answer.

I found a bunch of foreign bills from when different family members have been on vacation.

I know most of them i can just bring to any foreign exchange center.

But i am wondering what i can do with certain currencies that are no longer used (for instance one bill is 50 francs). Would they still accept them at the foreign currency center. Would a bank take them? Are they now collectors items?

Any ideas would be helpful, thanks.

DR Jennifer - I'm not sure, but I think notes in the denominations replaced by the Euro are no longer legal currency and are therefore worthless.

DR ELMORE are you interested in RECENT Babes in Toyland publications?

It has illustrations by Victoria Lisi.

I own a copy.  I don't like her illustrations.

I much prefer James Howe's retelling with one reservation: he bases his story on the copyright pre-production libretto and assumes this is what played on Broadway in 1903.  He's unaware that Act Two was drastically rewritten before casting in March 1903 and his adaptation doesn't follow the Broadway storyline.  I like his text and the illustrations immensely.

Yes they are no longer legal currency. But i was just wondering if there was any place that would still take it.

I mean if you lived in france, well when they were switching to the euro there must have been some place to still bring the old money.

Just curious, thanks.
