I am likewise not a fan of Jerry Lewis. A little of him goes a very long way. So I'll defer to those who do enjoy and appreciate his work.

I did think he was effective in THE KING OF COMEDY.

Hmmm...It seems DP Woody has changed his autograph line to a lyric from Beechman's CD

Yes, DR Naomi, you are correct, once again.

That is a typo -- it should read "You snarky monkey" ...

Is that a euphemism?

Only if he'd said Jose instead of landlord.

DR ELmo ~ How could anyone stay upset at that darling mug of yours?

I'm serious, you need to write reviews for a living -- or those gossip columns -- once again, your review of another Fringe show cracked me up (the line about f**king the audience -- LOL)....

That's a Paul Muni story: he was once in a play in which the producer's girlfriend had a small part and she was untalented.  Every day her part got bigger, good lines from others were given to her, and she was totally inept at everything she did.  And the size of the role increased.

One day, during a break, she told Muni how much she admired him as an actor and could he give her any advice as a struggling actress?  And he said, "Always remember, dear; you cannot fuck the audience."

I have to agree.  A few weeks ago I watched again SCARED STIFF, which I'd loved as a kid.  Give me Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard.  Speaking of whom, the Region-2 DVD of their wonderful CAT AND THE CANARY is worthy of buying a non-regional player since I doubt this film will ever show up in the USA.

Twenty-one years together, I'm still finding out the details!

 :o

And how times change. When we met you thought Denny's was fine dining and I did all the home cooking.

And...as if we don't have enough cooking books (what with Woody snagging everything in sight) now I'm starting to pop things in the shopping cart - added at Atlantic Books yesterday:

Tradewinds and Coconuts: Reminiscence & Recipes from the Pacific Islands (Favorite section so far: a discussion of Bats as cuisine..."the Chamorros cook the whole bat, fur and all, in coconut milk. The idea of easting soggy fur is daunting...)

Classic Asian Cook Book - I snagged it after seeing a picture of an Indonesian dish - Kalio Bebek - Duck pieces in rich coconut sauce. There is also a fascinating recipe for an Indian dish called Rogan Dosh - Lamb in rich chili sauce with yogurt.

I ended up with Sugar Pie and Jelly Roll: Sweets from a Southern Kitchen (in this case "Southern" means North Carolina). Recipes for Raspberry Summer Pudding, Apricot Bead pudding, etc. You gotta love a cook-book that regularly adds a tablespoon of bourbon to every other dish!

(I will, however, pass on their Christmas Orange Cake - made with a pound of orange-slice candies! Oh well, this is the land of Sweet Tea.) The Hot Fudge Sauce recipe looks like a classic - bittersweet chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee, cognac! Then there is something called Syllabub - sherry, brandy, lemon, heavy cream - served chilled in goblets (recipe from the 18th Century, it says).

DR ELMORE are you interested in RECENT Babes in Toyland publications?

It has illustrations by Victoria Lisi.

I'm up, I'm up - groggy, but up and have been since eight-fifteen.  I've been on hold with Time Warner because their home page will not load since yesterday noon, and therefore it's inconvenient trying to get to my mail from that e-mail address.

I've been writing and rewriting the front DJ flap copy over and over - it's really hard, but my friend Grant has been helping and I think with just one or two more tweaks I'll be happy.  The galley is approved (it took them forty minutes to prepare it thanks to our preparation, and me five minutes to approve).
